أهل الصحافة طاشت الألباب
ومن الغثاء تأذت الأكواب
O people of journalism, minds have gone astray,
And from rubbish, cups have been harmed.
فيكم من الأقلام ما لا ينتمي
إلا إليه العنفُ والإرهابُ
Among you there are pens that belong,
Only to violence and terrorism.
أبواق عولمة وعلمنة له
فينا نعيق شائن ونعاب
Trumpets of globalization and secularism, for which
We hinder evil and blame among us.
يندس فيكم كاتب متحامل
متطاول ومراسل كذابُ
A biased writer sneaks among you,
Arrogant, and a lying correspondent.
إن شاهدوا وجه التناحر حالك
حضروا وإن حضر التآلف غابوا
If they see the face of conflict in your condition,
They attend, and if harmony appears, they are absent.
هم لا يرون سوى القبيح وإنم
يهوي على المستنقعات ذبابُ
They see only the ugly, and flies
Plunge into the swamps.
تشكو المبادئ والمكارم ما ترى
منهم ويشكو ما يراه حجابُ
Principles and virtues complain about what they see
From them, and the veil complains about what it sees.
للأمر بالمعروف منهم خنجر
يدمي وشتم معلن وسباب
For enjoining good, they have a bloody dagger,
Public cursing and insulting.
ولكل أنثى بالعفاف تزينت
منهم سهام تآمر وحرابُ
And for every virtuous woman,
They have conspiring, attacking arrows.
ولكل شيخ بالشريعة عالم
منهم عدوٌ ظاهرٌ مرتابُ
And for every scholar of Sharia,
They have a manifest, doubting enemy.
يتناغمون تناغم القطط التي
صطك لما تدعس الأذناب
They harmonize like the cats that
Hiss when their tails are trodden on.
أهل الصحافة بينكم من ينزوي
لما يلوح من اليقين شهاب
Among you, O people of journalism, are those who recoil
When the meteors of certainty flare.
وكأنه الخفاش ينتظر الدجى
ليطير لما تغمض الأهداب
As if they are bats waiting for darkness
To fly when eyelids close.
عيناه نحو الغرب سمرتا فما
يغريه شرق طالع وثابُ
Their eyes have darkened towards the West, so
No rising radiant East tempts them.
ولربما نزع القناع لأنه
يعطَى على تضليله ويثابُ
And sometimes the mask is removed, because
He is rewarded for his deception.
إن الرضا منكم بسطر واحد
يؤذي مشاعر دينكم لعجاب
Being content with one line from you
Hurts the feelings of your religion, how strange!
إن صار إيذاء المشاعر غاية
فقد اختفى عقلٌ وطار صوابُ
If hurting feelings becomes the goal,
Then reason has disappeared, and rightness has flown.
أهل الصحافة للبريق خفوته
يوما وللفعل القبيح عقاب
O people of journalism, brightness has its gloom
One day, and evil action has punishment.
فخذوا على أيدي الذين تسللو
وتسلقوا حتى شكا المحرابُ
So restrain those who have sneaked in
And climbed until the prayer niche complained.
أنى يقدر كاتب متمرد
في حبره دعوى الضلال تذاب
How can a rebellious writer
Melt claims of misguidance in his ink?
ولرب حرف مؤمن بنيت به
قمم الوفاء وفتحت أبواب
And many a faithful letter you have built
The peaks of loyalty with, and opened doors.
لا يستوي في الروض طير صادح
يشدو وبوم ناعق وغرابُ
Not equal in the garden are a warbling bird
And a hooting owl and crow.
أهل الصحافة لا عدمنا بينكم
من أخبتوا لإلههم وأنابوا
O people of journalism, we have not lost among you
Those who were devoted to their God and repented,
من أشرعوا الأقلام في نشر الهدى
وإذا تحيرت العقول أصابوا
Who opened pens to spread guidance,
And when minds were confused, were correct.
نصبوا من الإسلام أعظم خيمة
شدت لها الأوتاد والأطنابُ
They erected Islam’s greatest tent,
To which pegs and ropes were tied.
حملوه إيمانا وحبا صادق
بيقينه تتواصل الأسباب
They carried it with true faith and love,
Through certainty, causes are connected.
ربح الذين تعلقوا بكتابه
أما الذين تنكبوه فخابوا .
Those who held to His book have profited,
While those who abandoned it have failed.
