أقولُ : " أتوبُ " ، لعلي أتوبْ

وأمسحُ عني جميعَ الذنوبْ

I say: "I repent", in hopes I repent

And wipe away all of my sins

لأخطِرَ فوق سحابِ السمـا

وأَغسلَ روحي بطهرٍ وطيبْ

To float above the clouds of heaven

And cleanse my soul with purity and fragrance

وكم قـد عصيـتُ ! ولكننـي

عَجِلتُ إليكَ ، وكُلّي عيـوبْ

How disobedient I have been! But here I am

Rushing to You, with all my faults

وكم قد شردتُ ! وها إنَّنـي

هجرتُ إليك جميعَ الـدروبْ

How lost I’ve been! Yet here I am

Forsaking all paths to come to You

وأثبتُّ قلبي بـدربِ الهـدى

مناراً يَلُـمُّ شَتـاتَ القلـوبْ

And anchor my heart on the path of guidance

A beacon gathering scattered hearts

أَيُرضيكَ عنِّي فـؤادٌ غـدا

بحبِّكَ ربي ، غريقَ الطيوبْ ؟

Will my heart appease You, having become

Drowning in Your love, my Lord, and sweet scents?

أيرضيك عنِّي وجيـبٌ بـدا

وحزنٌ مقيمٌ ، ودمعٌ سَكوبْ ؟

Will my fluttering bosom appease You

And lasting sorrow and pouring tears?

لِترضى سأدعو دعاءَ الغريقِ

فتبْ يا إلهي ، على من يتوبْ

To please You, I will pray the prayer of one drowning

Forgive, my God, the one who repents
