وجفن عانقَ الجفنا

ونامت أعينٌ وَسْنى

The eyelid embraced the eyelid

And eyes fell asleep, forgotten

ونام الكونُ في صمتٍ

فماجَ سكونُه لحنا

The universe fell silent

Its stillness stirred a melody

فداعَبَ لحنُه روحي

ورُحتُ أُغافلُ الكوْنا

Its melody caressed my soul

And I forgot the universe

فلم يشهدْ سوى قلبي

زفافَ اللفظ والمعنى

None witnessed but my heart

The wedding of word and meaning

أشعرٌ لاح ، أم سحرٌ ؟!

أجنَّاتٌ هنا تُجنى ؟!

Is it eloquence that shone, or magic?!

Or paradise where fruits are plucked?!

فلونٌ يقتفي لونا

وحُسنُ يشتكي حسنا

One hue pursues another

Beauty laments for beauty

فسبحان الذي أعطى

وسبحان الذي أغنى

Glory to Him who gave

And glory to Him who enriched
