A strand of white has visited the parting of my hair,

Like lightning flashing through the dusk of clouds in azure air.

Its sudden whiteness on the horizon struck no fear in me,

Like dawn it sprouts... or like a crown of dappled majesty.

Have you beheld a diadem formed from the darkest night,

Or fashioned from the diamond's blaze in moments of pure light?

This white strand is a precious pearl upon my parting’s crest,

Like Al-Aqsa’s gem that gleams atop the summits of the East.

Beneath it, I am Al-Aqsa’s self... a fleeting thought in flight,

That travels on its mystic path through deepest shades of night.

It is the Night Journey’s ascent within a head devout,

Have you seen grandeur greater than the light a pious heart pours out?

I am the journey of the dawn with light of shimmering grace,

Born of a lovelorn, burning tear, with pulsing fire’s trace.

It flowed upon existence's cheek, a smile soft and bright,

From one who loves with yearning soul and passion’s pure delight.

The far horizon of all time conveyed it as a greeting,

To the purest worshipper, with light extensive and repleting.

The daybreak rose from gloominess and climbed the heights above,

To reach the head’s most high estate, the parting that I love.

Welcome to you, O crown of youth and days of boyish glee,

You’ve crowned this head that wears the turban of a devotee.
