  1. I have seen sins put hearts to death,

    and humiliation attend persistence in them.

  2. Forsaking sins is the life of hearts,

    and it is better for your soul to defy them.

  3. Who has altered the faith except kings,

    wicked clerics, and its monks?

  4. They sold their souls, yet made no profit,

    nor did their price run high in the sale.

  5. The people have indeed grazed upon a carcass;

    its foul stench is plain to anyone possessed of reason.
