1. كان يحكي، يبكي، يجيبُ، يُنادي

    يدّعي، يشتكي، يصافي، يُعادي

    He used to talk, cry, answer, call out

    Claim, complain, reconcile, oppose

  2. مرحباً يا (سعيدُ)،خذْ نورَ عيني

    أسكتي، هاتِ بُندُقي يا (عُبادي)

    Welcome O Sa'eed, take the light of my eyes

    Be quiet, bring my gun O Obbadi

  3. غادَرتْ عُمقَها البحارُ وجاءَتْ

    ركبتْ ظلّهَا الرّمالُ الحَوادي

    The depths left the seas and came

    Its shadows mounted the deserted sands

  4. هل تخافينَ أن أموت؟ حياتي

    لم تحقِّق شَيئاً يثيرُ افْتِقادي

    Are you afraid that I will die? My life

    Did not accomplish anything that would make me missed

  5. كنتُ كالآخرينَ، أمشطُ شَعري

    أنتقي بزَّتِي، أبيعُ كَسادي

    I was like others, combing my hair

    Choosing my clothes, selling my misery

  6. أشتري(ربطة)، وأصحو بكاس

    وبكاسٍ أطفي شموع سهادي

    Buying a tie, and waking up with a glass

    And with a glass extinguishing the candles of my vigil

  7. وأُوالي بلا اعتقادٍ وأنوي

    سحقَ مَنْ لم يتاجروا باعتِقادي

    And befriending without belief and intending

    To crush those who did not trade with my belief

  8. كلُّ هذا عُمْري، وعمرٌ كَهذا

    لا يُساوي، عذابَ يومٍ ولادي

    All this is my life, and a life like this

    Is not worth the torment of a day of my birth

  9. إسقِني يا (صلاح)، زدْ، مَنْ دعَاني؟

    يا عيالَ الكلابِ ردُّوا جَوادي

    Quench my thirst O Salah, add more, who called me?

    O sons of dogs, return my horses

  10. كيف أقضي دَيْني وليس ببيتي

    غيرُ بيتي ومِعْزفٌ غيرُ شادي؟

    How can I pay my debt when there is nothing in my house

    Except my house and a flute other than a joyful one

  11. والَّذي كانَ والدي صَار طفلي

    من أُداري.. عنادَهُ أو عنادي؟

    And he who was my father became my son

    Who should I blame? His or my stubbornness?

  12. لبسَتْ قامةُ الرَّياح جَبيني

    نسيَ اللَّيل رجلَهُ في وِسَادي

    The stature of the winds wore my forehead

    The night forgot its leg in my pillow

  13. زَوَّجتْ بنتَهَا بعشرين الفاً

    باعَ(ناجي سعيدُ) (زيدَ الجَرادي)

    She married her daughter for twenty thousand

    Naji Sa'eed sold Zayd Al Jaradi

  14. كلُّ آتٍ مَضَى، أتى كلُّ ماضٍ

    ضاع في كل رايح كل غادي

    Everything that passed, came, everything that went

    Was lost in every passing wind

  15. (ما كَفَى واحِداً كَفى اثْنينِ) قالوا :

    أكلوني ويحذرونَ ازدرادي

    They said: one was not enough, two are enough

    They ate me and warn of my hostility

  16. ولأنِّي مُجوفٌ مثلُ غيري

    بِعْتُ وجهي لوجهِ مائي وزادي

    And because I am hollow like others

    I sold my face for the face of my food and supplies

  17. أليساريُّ رزقُ اليميني، وقالوا:

    أجْودُ الخُبزِ مِنْ طحينِ التَّعَادي

    The sustenance of the right is the left’s earning, and they said:

    The most generous bread is from the flour of cooperation

  18. من سيعطي (سعداً) حُساماً بصيراً

    ثالثَ السِّاعدَيْنِ ذيلُ حِيادي

    Who will give Saad a seeing sword

    The tail of neutrality between the two arms

  19. ذاتَ يومٍ كانتْ ممرّاتُ (صنعا)

    من نبيذٍ ومِنْ زهورٍ نوادي

    One day the alleys of Sana’a

    Were of wine and flowers of valleys

  20. تَتَهادى النُّجوم في كلِّ دَرْبٍ

    كالغَواني.. فأينَ ذاكَ التَّهَادي؟

    The stars sway in every path

    Like songs.. where is that harmony?

  21. سألوا من أَنَّا.. وصرَّحتُ باسْمي

    كاملاً، أنكروا بأنّي (مُرادي)

    They asked who I am.. and I confessed my name

    Completely, they denied that I am Muradi

  22. قلت (أبّي)، (عَنْسي)، (زبيدي).. أشاروا

    ألرِّيالات نسيتي وبلادي

    I said my father is Anse, Zabeedi.. they gestured

    As if I forgot my riyals and country

  23. أضحكتْهُم كتابةُ أسْمي وفوْراً

    بَيَّضَتْ خضرةُ النُّقودِ مِدادي

    My name’s spelling made them laugh and immediately

    The green of the money whitened my ink

  24. عندهُ نعجةٌ فأمسي مديراً!

    نهدُ أنثَى مؤهلٌ غيرُ عَادي

    He has a ewe so I became a director!

    A female's breast is an extraordinary qualification

  25. ألحليبُ الذي يُسمَّى جلوداً

    طازجاتٍ أمسي سريرَ (ابْنِ هادي)

    The milk that is called skins

    Of fresh ones I became the bed of Ibn Hadi

  26. قَبلَ بدءِ الزَّواجِ طُلِّقتُ.. صَارَتْ

    كلُّ زوجاتِهِم خيولَ رُقادي

    Before marriage I was divorced.. they became

    All their wives my saddle horses

  27. كانَ يخشى أبي فَسادي ويبني

    يومَ عُرْسي رفضْتُ.. عاشَ فسادي

    My father used to fear my corruption and my son builds

    On my wedding day I refused.. so my corruption lived

  28. كنتُ أعتادُهَا (غَزالاً) فاضحَتْ

    (فاتناَ).. ودِّع الهَوَى يا فُؤادي

    I used to call her a gazelle, so she betrayed

    Farewell love, O my heart

  29. من أرادَ النَّجاةَ ماتَ ليحيا

    والذي لم يَمُتْ إلى الموتِ صادي

    Whoever wanted salvation, died to live

    And those who did not die are heading to death

  30. سَلَّحُونا (شيكي) وقالوا عليكُمْ

    وعليكم... حَسب القَرارِ القيادي

    They armed us, Sheikhi, and said unto you

    And unto you...depending on the leadership's decision

  31. كانَ(يحيى) كالتَّيسِ يعدو ويثغُو

    و(مثنَّى) يُلقى خِطاباً (زيادي)

    Yahya was like a billy goat, running and frisking about

    And Muthanna casting a long speech

  32. وهَجَمنا... مِتْنا قليلاً، أفقنا

    موتُنَا كانَ مولِداً لا إرادي

    And we attacked... we died a little, we woke up

    Our death was a birth not voluntary

  33. ورجعنا وللصخورِ عيونٌ

    كالصَّبايا وللرَّوابي أيادي

    And we returned while the rocks have eyes

    Like girls and the hilltops have hands

  34. إنَّ تحتَ القناعِ والوجهِ وجهاً

    يختفي تحتَ ظهرِهِ وَهْوَ بادي

    Indeed under the mask and the face is a face

    That hides behind its back and it is manifested

  35. صاحبُ الوادَييْن دونَ تَمَنِّ

    نَالَ ألفاً وباعَ مليونَ وادي

    The owner of the two valleys without wishing

    Got a thousand and sold a million valleys

  36. بدءُ ليلي حبُّ، بدونِ عشاء

    نصفُ يومي هوىً وخبزٌ مُعادي

    The beginning of my night is love, without dinner

    Half my day is passion and hostile bread

  37. هل سأعتاد وجهَ غيري بوجهي؟

    زَعَمُوا، ربَّمَا أخونُ اعتيادي

    Will I get used to another’s face with my face?

    They claimed I might betray my habit

  38. قلت لي: أنَّ ذا (أكيدٌ) ولكنْ

    أي شيءٍ مؤكد يا (حَمادي)؟

    I said to myself this is certain but

    What is certain, O Hammadi?

  39. آه مَاذا أريدُ؟ أدري وأنسى

    ثم أنسى أنِّي نسيتُ مُرادي

    Ah what do I want? I know and forget

    Then forget that I forgot my purpose

  40. كان يحكي وفَتْحَتا مُقْلتيهِ

    مثلُ ثقبينِ في جدارٍ رمادي

    He used to tell stories, and I opened my eyelids
