Sanaa was born in September
Only to meet death in November
But to be reborn again
In May or in October
In early January
Or on the second of December
As long as her slumber is pregnant
Her birth will not be delayed
Despite the nausea, she yearns for
The pains of labor and does not complain
Her coming birth is heralded by
A lingering dawn, a blond morning
An appointment like dormant snow
And ghosts like red rain
Severed limbs flutter like memories
And sleep to dream of the Day of Assembly
Ashes of a summer day
And smoke like a tanned dream
And a call behind calls
Do not forget Obla, O Antar
Names with no dangers
Herald names more dangerous
Do you know, O epileptic Sanaa
How you were extinguished? And when will you bloom?
Like an apricot she died standing
To count the green birth
She melts and dries so she may melt again
And floats, floats so she may yellow
And dies on a famous day
To be reborn on a more famous day
She casts dead leaves
And waves with green paper
And continues to die so she may live
And dies so she may live even more
