This dancing, graceful morning
Charms fluttering, magic weaving
And delights, no sooner do you see
Its beauty than another scene tempts you
Dawn pours on the slopes and prairies
The garden sips the dew and chirps
The flowers hug the rays as if
A mother kisses and lulls her child
In the festival of light dawned upon the horizon
A feast crystallized by radiance and bloomed
In throngs that nearly twitter from beauty
The accession feast, inform your country lending an ear
Ask where is its bliss? Does it exist?
It passes and comes while the country and its people
Remain in your eyes as you knew and covenanted
O feast, speak to your oppressed people, when
Will it be sated? And will it be sated, where is the spring?
Speak, for in your smile is good tidings
National, and on your forehead an appointment
Why the silence when half your people here
Suffer.. And half are displaced in nations?
O feast, this people, its genius was humiliated
Its talents folded in somber darkness
The intellectuals vanished as if
A dream scattered by gloom and vanished
The people have a day that rekindles their wounds
In it, and casts off the settled settler
Though you see it in tranquility..
Behind tranquility, wrath and rebellion
Below the ashes, an embalmed ember
And from the ember, a flame ignites
No, the South's wound and sorrow did not sleep
It flashes in hearts like thunder rumbling
No, a people did not sleep.. whose chest burns
A wound laid on the flames of agony
A people wanting but not attaining, as if
Bound in shackles.. fettered
Welcome, o storm of events, they
Echo life's breaths in the living
If events shook a frozen boulder
It would rumble and thunder, melted by flames
Between South and its land's thief
A day recorded in blood and eternized!
The people stronger than the unjust's canons
More intense than iron's might and more stoic
Right makes the roaring army kneel
And blunts the sword's edge, made docile
Death does not pardon the coward, nor spare him
While the martyred rebel lives on
Oh woe when the curtains of injustice fold
And tomorrow exposes and disgraces them!
Tomorrow glory will know we are a Yemeni nation
You are north, and a glorious people are south
The world will know, will know it is
A people accustomed to crushing tyrants
Let the colonists write in their fury
Let them be ashamed, let the colonized be defiant
The accession feast, did you hear a poet
There promising festivity?
So, may God protect you, accept my acclaim
Though the anthem cried out and the chanter wailed
Forgive me if sorrow tinged my tune
For the wounded may sigh in their song
