صافحتك القلوب قبل النواظر

واستطارت إلى لقاك الخواطر

Hearts greeted you before eyes could see,

And thoughts eagerly awaited your presence.

وتلقاك عالم اليمن الحر

كما لاقت النفوس البشائر

The people of Yemen joyfully welcomed you,

Like souls receiving good news.

وارتمى يسكب التراحيب ألوا

ناً كما تسكب اللحوم القياثر

Sounds of celebration poured forth,

Like meat juices pouring from cooking pots.

وتملت نزولك اليمن الخضرا

ففاضت بالأغنيات الحناجر

Your arrival made Yemen turn green again,

And throats burst into song.

وتنزلت في معاني حماها

مثلما ينزل الشعاع المحاجر

You descended like rays into the hearts of Hamah's people,

Like beams descending into chambers.

وهفا الموطن الكريم يحيي

مشعل العلم في سناك الباهر

This noble homeland welcomes you,

Torch of knowledge, your brilliance apparent.

وتغلغلت في حناياه كالإيمان

كالطهر في عفاف الضمائر

You penetrated its essence like faith,

Like purity in hearts most modest.

كالمنى في القلوب كالدم في الأبدان

كالسكر في دماغ المعاقر

You were welcomed like yearning in hearts, like blood in veins,

Like sugar dissolving in sips of wine.

قد تلقاك موطني ينثر التر

حيب في راحتيك نثر الجواهر

My homeland greeted you, strewing perfumes,

Like precious gems cast before your comfort.

وانتشى من شعاعك العلم لما

زرت “دار العلوم” يا خير زائر

When you visited Dar Al Uloom,

Its knowledge shone in your glow.

وازدهي الشعر ينثر النغم الحل

وكما ينثر الربيع الأزاهر

Poetry blossomed, scattering rhythmic tones,

Like spring scattering flowers.

قد رأى “موطني” بمرآك “مصراً”

منبت الفن والإبا والعباقر

My homeland saw in you an image of Egypt,

Where art, glory and genius arise.

مصر أم الحجاز واليمن ال

سامي وأم الشآم أم الجزائر

Mother of Hejaz, Yemen and Syria,

Mother of high-minded, noble souls.

وحدة العرب راية في رباها

ومنى العرب في يديها زواخر

Arab unity her banner raised high,

In her hands the ships of their hopes.

شادها الله للعروبة داراً

وابتناها بنيّرات الزواهر

God established her as the Arab home,

Building her with brilliant stars.

بلدة تنبت العلوم وأرض

تلد المجد والعلا والمفاخر

A land where knowledge grows,

Where glory, sublimity and pride are born.

نيلها المستفيض أنشودة الله

على مسمع الليالي العوابر

Her Nile an eternal hymn to God,

Flowing by transient nights.

وحماها كنانة الله تر

مي في وجوه العدا السهام الثوائر

God's care protects her from enemies' arrows,

Fired by hands aflame with rage.

يابن مصر التي تلاقت عليها

شيم العرب والنفوس الحرائر

O son of Egypt, where Arab virtues unite,

And free souls congregate.

علمك العلم ينشر الدين في الدنيا

كما تنشر الشعاع المنائر

Your knowledge spreads faith throughout the world,

Like brilliant rays spreading light.

وتجوب الشعوب في خدمة الإسلام

والحق وارتباط الأواصر

You journey serving Islam, truth and unity,

Tying bonds between hearts sincere.

إيه عزام أنت وعي من النيل

إلى العرب تستثير المشاعر

O Azzam, you are a conscience that stirs

Arab hearts and awakens spirits.

وسفير تشيد الوحدة الشما

وتستنهض السنا في البصائر

An envoy building unity, igniting insights,

Calling nations to unite in freedom.

وتنادي البلاد للإتحاد الحر

والاتحاد أقوى مناصر

Unity stronger than all foes.

In Arab unity lies eternal, defiant glory.

إن في وحدة العروبة مجداً

خالداً ثائراً على كل ثائر

The Arabs are one nation, united

By language, blood and origin.

إنما العرب أمة وحدتها

لغة الضاد والدما والعناصر

Once they shook the world,

Splitting the darkness with gleaming swords.

إنما العرب أمة هزت الدنيا

وشقت سود الخطوب العواكر

With pride they trod on Persian crowns,

And marched upon heads of Caesars.

إن للعرب غابراً داس “كسرى”

وتمشى على رؤوس القياصر

So draw, my nation, from your glorious past,

And build the most noble present.

فاستمدي يا أمتي من سنا الما

ضي معاليك واعمري خير حاضر

Glory disdains to meet its sons

In hands that seize or imprison.

يأنف المجد أن يلاقي بنيه

في يدي غاصب وفي كف آسر

Aspire, my nation, to every glory,

And rise with the vigor of early dawn.

فاطمحي أمتي إلى كل مجد

وانهضي نهضة الصباح الباكر

O envoy of free solidarity, you voiced

My deepest passions in verse.

يا سفير التضامن الحر غنت

سعيك الحر أمنياتي الشواعر

My soul melted with love for Arabs,

Composing a song of inspiration and flowers.

وتلاشت على هوى العرب روحي

نغماً ملهم الغنا والمزاهر

A hymn pouring out my feelings,

My essence, my heartbeat, my inner secrets.

ونشيداً أفرغت فيه أحاسيسي

وذاتي وخافقي والسرائر

So receive, O poet of the Nile, my poetry,

Verse whose title reads "Soul of a Poet."

فتلقى يا شاعر النيل شعري

فهو شعر عنوانه “روح شاعر”
