    In my chest, thirsty birds cry

    In my skull, a devil

  4. (شيطانٌ أنثى أو ذكرٌ)؟

    شيطانُ (الأعشى) أو (حسان؟)

  5. خفق ناريٌّ يعزفني

    وصدى كأزاهير الرمانْ

    A fiery throbbing plays me

    An echo like pomegranate buds

  6. (هَذي أغراضُ الشعر كما

    جرَّبت ولاداتُ الوجدان)

    (These are the purposes of poetry as

    The births of passion have tested)

  7. (تغلي كربيعٍ مخبوءٍ

    يشتاقُ إلى لُقيا البستان)

    (It boils like a hidden spring

    Longing for the meeting of the garden)

  8. الطقسُ رديءٌ ثلجي

    أحياناً، جمري أحيان

    The weather is bad, snowy

    Sometimes, fiery sometimes

  9. (أخبارُ اليومِ نفوا، هجموا

    كسروا إحدى كتفي لبنانْ

    (Today's news evaporated, they attacked

    They broke one of Lebanon's shoulders

  10. ألديك جديدٌ تنشدنا؟)

    ما زال جنيناً، بلْ غثيانْ

    تدرينَ مواعيدَ الفنان

  13. كل الوطن الغالي سينا

    And all our cities are Oman

  14. موشي ما عادَ هناكَ، هنا

    وهنا ألفا موشي ديان

  15. من ذا يقتادُ سفائِننا

    يا ريحُ؟ الموج بلا شطآن!

    Who will lead our ships

    O wind? The wave without tumult!

  16. أتعيدُ الريحُ دمَ القتلى

    وتشبُّ شرايينُ الميدان؟)

    Does the wind bring back the blood of the dead

    And kindle the arteries of the battlefield?)

  17. أترين مقابرَنا يوماً

    تهتاج، فتقذفنا شُجعان

    Do you see our graves one day

    Jubilant, so they throw us brave

  18. نهمي أمطاراً أو نهوي

    أشلاءً أو نمضي فرسان

    We rain rain or fall

    Limbs or we go horsemen

  19. (معقولٌ ما دمنا نُشوى

    أن ينضجنا الألمُ الحران

    (It makes sense that as long as we roast

    The burning pain will ripen us

  20. أسخى الثوراتِ جنى ولدت

    في المنفى أو خلف القضبان

    The most generous revolutions were born

    In exile or behind bars)

  21. أنسيتَ القهوة) فلتبرد

    (بردت جداً سئمَ الفنجان)

    You forgot the coffee) so let it cool

    (It cooled too much, the cup was bored)

  22. (قل لي أقرأت مقالاتي )

    في أنقى ساعات الإمعان

    (Tell me, did you read my articles)

    In the purest hours of contemplation

  23. وقصائدك الحلواتُ ضُحى

    وغروب صيفي الأجفان

    And your sweet poems are morning

    And the sunset of my eyelids

  24. ديوانٌ يبدو لا أحلى

    منهُ إلا أم الديوان

    A book that appears no sweeter

    Than the mother of books

  25. (شكراً يا...) وارتبكت ورنا

    من عينيها خبثٌ أمرآتان

    (Thank you..) And she was confused and blushed

  26. فتناست لهجتها الأولى

    وتناغت كالطفل الجذلان

  27. وتناعستِ النبراتُ على

    شفتيها كالفجر النعسان

  29. ما زلت أُفتش عن صوتي

    وفمي في معترك ِالألحان

    I'm still looking for my voice

    And my mouth is in the fray of melodies

  30. وأسائلُ عن وجهي عني

    عن يومي في تيهِ الأزمان

    And I ask about my face, my eyes

    About my day in the wilderness of times

  31. عن حرف حُر الوجه له

    نفس غضبي وفم غضبان

    About the free letter that has

    My anger's breath and angry mouth

  32. (ألشعر اليوم كما تدري

    ألوانٌ، ليسَ لها ألوان

    (You know poetry today

    Colors, they have no colors

  33. كل الأنفاسِ بلا عبقٍ

    كلُ الأوتارِ بلا عيدان

    All breaths without fragrance

    All strings without plectrums

  34. زمنُ الصاروخ قصائده

    عجلى كالصاروخ العجلان

    The age of the rocket, its poems

    Hasty like the hasty rocket

  35. ولمن تشدو والقصف هنا

    وهنا والعصر بلا آذان)

    And for whom do you sing while the shelling is here

    And here and the times without minarets)

  36. أيديهِ فولاذٌ فمه

    طاحونٌ أرجلهُ نيران

    His hands are steel, his mouth

    A mill, his feet fire

  37. يرنو من خلفِ التيهِ كما

    ترنو الحيطانُ إلى الحيطان

    He aspires from behind confusion as

    The walls aspire to the walls

  38. أقراص النوم تبيع له

    أهداباً وهدوءاً يقظان)

    Sleeping pills sell him

    Eyelids and alert calm)

  39. ما أضيعنا يا شاعرتي

    في عصرِالوزن بلا ميزان

    We did not get lost, my poet

    In the age of meter without balance

  40. في ظل الغزو بلا غزوٍ

    في عهد البيعِ بلا أثمان

    In the shadow of invasion without invasion

    In the era of sale without prices

  41. أموازنةُ القواتِ سوى

    تجميل مناقيرِالعدوان؟

    Is the balance of forces just

    Beautifying the predators' beaks?

  42. (فلتسلم فلسفةُ الأيدي

    ولتسقط فلسفةُ الأذهان

    (So let the philosophy of hands surrender

    And let the philosophy of minds fall

  43. كل الأوراقِ بما حملت

    تشتاق إلى ألفي طوفان)

    All papers with what they carried

    Yearn for the flood of two thousand)

  44. ما أتعبنا.. يا أختُ، وما

    أقوى وأمر عِدا الإنسان!

    How tired we are.. O sister, and how

    Strong and bitter human beings are!

  45. (أدري إنا لم نتغير

    مهما عصروا لون الطغيان

    (I know we haven't changed

    No matter how much they squeeze the color of tyranny

  46. أترى القرصانَ وإن لبسوا

    أطرى الأشكال سوى القرصان

    Do you see the pirate, even if they wear

    The most luxurious forms, only pirates

  47. تدري ما زلتً لمولاتي

    نعلاً) وأنا نعلُ السلطان!

    You know I'm still your slipper

    And I am the sultan's slipper!)

  48. (قل: لم تترك وثناً لكن

    في أنفسنا أصلُ الأوثان

  49. ما أضعفنا شيء إلاَّ

    ما فينا من طينٍ الإذعان

    Nothing weakened us but

    What is in us from the clay of submission

  50. فلأذهب.. عفواً طولنا)

    لم تذهب لقيانا مجانْش

  53. عملي عزاف مبتدئٌ

    Who cries or sings to the walls

  54. صندوقُ بريد معروفٌ

    برميلُ الحرق أو النسيان

    A known mailbox

    Barrel of burning or oblivion

  55. وهدأت برغمي وانصرفت

    ولبسنا الصمتَ على الأشجان

    And I calmed down and left

    And we wore silence on the branches
