حيث كنا كما أراد الإمام
كل دعوى منا علينا اتهام
Where we were as the Imam wanted
Every claim from us is an accusation against us
إنما سوف ندعي ولتصدق
يا (وصابان) ولتثق يا (رجام)
We will only claim, so believe
O Wisabin, and trust O Rajam
غير أنا وبعد تسع طوال
حيث كنا كأنما مرعام
Except for me, after nine lengths
Where we were as if grazing livestock
كلما جد، أننا قد كشفنا
أوجهاً دلنا عليها اللثام
Whenever seriously, we have uncovered
Faces that the veil led us to
وعرفنا من العمالات صنفاً
كان أطرى ما أحدث (العم سام)
And we knew from the workers a kind
That was the oddest that Uncle Sam did
يرتدي كل ساعة ألف لون
وله كل ساعتين نظام
Wearing every hour a thousand colors
And having every two hours a system
حيث كنا، لكن لماذا أضعنا
في التعادي سبعاً، وفيم الخصام؟
Where we were, but why did we waste
In hostility seven, and why the discord?
جرحتنا الحروب في غير شيء
وبلا غاية دهانا السلام
The wars wounded us in nothing
And without purpose the peace deceived us
الغزاة الذين يوماً تلاشوا
بقوانا، لهم علينا اقتحام
The invaders who one day vanished
With our strength, they have a storming against us
إنهم يوغلون فينا ونغضي
فلماذا رعناهموا حين حاموا
They penetrate us and we appease
So why did we pasture them when they were fervent?
الركام الذي نفضناه عنا
ذات يوم له علينا ازدحام
The rubble that we shook off from us
One day has a cramming against us
ونعال الغزاة وهي كثير
فوق أعناقنا جباه وهام
And the invaders' slippers, and they are many
Above our necks, foreheads and zeal
والأباة الذين بالأمس ثاروا
أيقظوا حولنا الذئاب وناموا
And the refractories who yesterday rebelled
They awakened around us the wolves and slept
حين قلنا قاموا بثورة شعب
قعدوا قبل أن يروا كيف قاموا
When we said they revolted a people
They sat before seeing how they stood up
ربما أحسنوا البدايات لكن
هل يحسون كيف ساء الختام؟
Perhaps they did good beginnings, but
Do they feel how the ending was bad?
مات (سبتمبر) البشير ولكن
أمه ناهدٌ هواها غلام
