  1. قبلَ الطريقِ أبتدي

    سيري رحيلَ أحرُفي

    Before the road, I begin

    My journey, the travel of my letters

  2. أجيءُ قبلَ مولدي

    بعدَ مدى تخلُّفي

    I come before my birth

    After the extent of my lagging

  3. مُفتِّشاً عن جبهتي

    وعن عروقِ مِعْزفي

    Searching for my forehead

    And for the veins of my insight

  4. وعن عيونِ مَرْبعي

    وعن نُهودِ مَصيَفي

    And for the eyes of my square

  5. أصيحُ للرُّبا: أقفزي

    وللحدائقِ: أزحفي

    I cry to the hills: Jump!

    And to the gardens: Crawl!

  6. وللضِّفافِ: أبحري

    وللبحارِ: كَفْكِفي

    And to the banks: Sail!

    And to the seas: Flap!

  7. وللغُصونِ: سافري

    وللعروقِ: رَفْرفي

    And to the branches: Travel!

    And to the veins: Flutter!

  8. وللحقولِ: حَلِّقي

    وللمقابرِ: اهْتفي

    And to the fields: Soar!

    And to the graves: Call out!

  9. وللعواصفِ: ارقدي

    وللحجارةِ: أعْصِفي

    And to the storms: Sleep!

    And to the rocks: Rage!

  10. أُحِسُّها جميعَها

    تَدْوي: سئِمتُ مَوقفي

    I feel them all

    Echoing: I'm tired of my stance

  11. مللتُ طولَ وقُّفتي

    وملَّني توقفي

    I'm bored of standing still so long

    And waiting wearies me

  12. هل أبتدي تحرُّكي؟

    تعلَّمي أنْ تَعرفي

    Shall I start my movement?

    Learn to know

  13. وَجرِّبي أن تَرفضي

    وحاولي أن تجرِفي

    And try to reject

    And attempt to sweep away

  14. تغَيِّري وغيري

    تجدِّدي وفَلْسِفي

    Change and alter

    Renew and philosophize

  15. وأحْرِقي ما أخرجوا

    وأَلَّفو وأَلِّفي

    And burn what they brought out

    And compiled and compiled

  16. كي تُولدي جديدةٌ

    قبلَ الولادةِ أتْلَغي

    So you are born anew

    Before birth, I end

  17. واسْتَحِثُّ رحلتي

    أضيعُ في تَقصُّفي

    And hasten my journey

    I wander lost in my fragments

  18. لا خطوةٌ تَدلُني

    ولا طريقٌ يقتفي

    No step guides me

    Nor road follows me

  19. أمدُّ صوتي مَعْبَراً

    وأمتطي تلَهَّفي

    I extend my voice crossing over

    And mount my fervor

  20. واجتلي عوالِماً

    منفيَّةً وأنتفي

    And uncover worlds

    Hidden and pick myself apart

  21. مُحمَّلاً جِنِّيَّةً

    حُبْلى ووجهاً مَتْحَفي

    Loaded with impishness

    Pregnant and a face that picks at me

  22. جلدُ الرَّصيفِ مِئزَري

    لونُ الرِّياحِ مِعْطَفي

    The skin of the sidewalk is my loincloth

    The color of the winds my coat

  23. جنسيَّتي غرابتي

    مملَكَتي تَطرُّفي

    My nationality is my strangeness

    My kingdom my extremism

  24. مدينتي قصيدَةٌ

    أُشعِلها وأنطفي

    My city is a poem

    I ignite it and extinguish it

  25. حبيبَةٌ تميتني

    دقائقاً وتختفي

    A beloved who kills me

    Moments and disappears

  26. حريقةٌ تشربُني

    أشربها وأشتفي

    A blaze that drinks me

    I drink it and quench my thirst

  27. أجسُّ نبضَ نجمة

    على جبيني تَنْكَفي

    I feel the pulse of a star

    That swoops down upon my forehead

  28. أغيبُ في تَمزُّقي

    كي يهتدي تَكَشُّفي

    I disappear in my disintegration

    So that my probing may find its way
