1. من نحنُ يا (صرواحُ) يا (ميتمُ)؟

    موتى ولكن ندعي نزعم

    Who are we, O Sorrow, O Orphan?

    Dead yet claiming, alleging

  2. ننجرُ لا نمضي ولا ننثني

    لا نحن أيقاظٌ ولا نومُ

    We drag, neither moving nor bending

    Neither awake nor asleep are we

  3. نغفو بلا نومٍ ونصحو بلا

    صحوٍ فلا نرنو ولا نحلمُ

    Dozing without sleep, waking without

    Wakefulness, seeing naught, dreaming naught

  4. كم تضحكُ الدنيا وتبكي أسى

    ونحنُ لا نبكي ولا نبسم

    How the world laughs and grieves sadly

    While we neither weep nor smile

  5. فلم يعد يضحكنا مضحك

    ولم تعد آلامنا تؤلم

    No more does laughter make us laugh

    Our pains no longer cause us pain

  6. أضاعتِ الأفراحُ ألوانها

    وفي عروقِ الحزنِ جف الدمُ

    Joys have lost their colors

    In the veins of grief, blood has dried

  7. ماذا؟ ألفنا طعمَ أوجاعنا

    أو لم نعد نشتم أو نطعمُ!

    What is it? Are we used to our torments

    Or we no longer perceive taste or food?

  8. أزقة البترولِ تمتصنا

    تبصقنا للريحِ أو تَهضمُ

    Streets of oil engulf us

    Spew us to the winds or digest us

  9. والسيدُ المحكومُ في داره

    في دارنا المستحكِم الأعظمُ!

    While the ruled lord in his abode

    In our abode, the greatest despot!

  10. بلادنا كانت، وأبطالنا

    كانوا رجالاً قبل أن يحكموا

    Our country was, and our heroes

    Were men before they ruled

  11. يقالُ: كانوا فُهماء الحِمى

    واليومَ لا ينوونَ أن يفهموا

    It is said: they were zealous patriots

    Today, they wish not to understand

  12. ثاروا صباحَ القصفِ لكنهم

    يومَ انتصارِ الثورةِ استسلموا

    They rose at the dawn of bombardment but

    On the day of the revolution’s victory, surrendered

  13. وبعد عامٍ غيروا لونهم

    وبعدَ أيامٍ نسوا من همو

    After a year, they changed their color

    After days, forgot who they were

  14. يا موطني من ذا تُنادي هنا؟

    اسكت.. لماذا؟ أنتَ لا تعلمُ

    O my homeland, whom do you call here?

    Hush...why? You do not know

  15. إن الطويل العمرِ لا يرتضي

    حُباً ينادي... أو صدى يلهمُ

    That he who is long of life is not pleased

    With love that calls...or an echo that inspires

  16. ترون أن أنسى يمانيتي

    كي يطمئن الفاتحُ الأغشمُ

    Do you think I should forget my yearning

    So that the tyrant may be reassured?

  17. الصمتُ أنجى... حسنٌ! إنَّما

    في نار صمتي (يمن) مرغمُ

    Silence is safer...Good! But in

    The fire of my silence, Yemen is forced

  18. هذي بلادي، وهنا إخوتي

    أسكت، تأدب... طافرٌ مجرمُ

    This is my country, and here are my brothers

    Hush, behave...a fugitive felon

  19. لكن ،لماذا؟ إنَّ أهلي بنوا

    هنا دياراً، وهنا خيموا

    But why? My family built here

    Homes, and here they camped

  20. في كل شبرٍ تنجلي ضحوةٌ

    من خطوهم أو يزدهي موسمُ

    In every inch truths reveal themselves

    From their steps or a season flourishes

  21. هذي الحصى من بعض أشلائهم

    من لحمِهم هذي الرُّبا الجُثمُ

    These pebbles are from some of their remains

    From their flesh, these solid rocks

  22. هذا الضُّحى من وهجِ أبصارهم

    ومن رؤاهم هذهِ الأنجمُ

    This glow from the blaze of their eyes

    From their visions, these stars

  23. ما زلتُ أدري أن ذا موطني

    لم لا أناديهِ وعندي فم؟

    I still know this is my homeland

    Why not call it, when I have a mouth?
