Princess of my heart and soul—greetings,
Tender, breathing a fragrance none can match.
A rose has its perfume, yet surely it fades;
But longing bears a perfume from the heart that endures.
Whenever I see you, it is as though I have drunk my fill—
How beautiful is quenching after burning thirst.
How wretched the night when it stretches long;
Yet my night is separation from you, not darkness.
How glorious the dawn after the deep gloom;
And my dawn is meeting you—my dream is that it last.
Should one like me meet such coldness from you?
Do I mean so little to you, over the slightest word?
I have become, in your eyes, less than your companions,
While you have become, to me, the dearest of all people.
A day you are absent from me is years,
While for you it is like a night one sleeps away.
Will you, then, show mercy to this wounded heart—
If only with a glance that holds no reproach?
