Rise up, you lions of goodness, and ravenously devour evil,
Storm the bastions of wickedness, and seize the chance,
Leave no sun of hope shining in the sky,
For darkness itself has always been most cunning and alone.
Rush against the spite of tyrants, for their conceit
Is that lions fear to sacrifice themselves.
Show them how the earth, once steeped in blood,
Sprouts forth lions roaring for justice.
Revolt for God, whose law triumphs,
Cloaking life in the light of guidance.
Revolt for honor, which that despoiler
Has stripped you of while you just watch.
Revolt for mosques, which should echo with prayer,
Once the minarets guiding all mankind
To every good and noble cause.
Will that ungrateful wretch dare hope
To extinguish the pure sun, bound fast in its circuit?
Rise up, for you are the free stars,
While on the despots your fire will never go out!
Give those who disdain you a taste of your mettle;
Your rhymes are an ocean with waves ever mounting.
O wounded lion of our nation, weave
Your wounds into robes of magnificent honor.
O tyrant, beware what is coming to you -
Abjection and chains is the fate you've been building.
Spread your darkness across the countryside,
Block the sunbeams from pouring their light.
Kill the dreaming infant in its innocence,
Kill the babe at its mother's breast as it lies.
Ravish Muslim women, leave none in Syria
Save those who bow down before you in worship.
For this you will reap but wounds and still more wounds,
So plant them, water them - harvest will not be distant.
