A runaway slave enslaves his Lord in the night,
afflicted, lamenting his passion and anguish,
shedding tears, bewildered and aflame.
He neither knows nor comprehends his path.
،
Learned, yet unknowing of the hidden mysteries
of his life—misguidance steals away his heart.
،
A fugitive who never returns, traversing deserts
whose barrenness is one of the deadly perils.
Where does he go, and how can he go, when not yet
have light and guidance come to dwell beside him?
Wayward as arrows, or as death’s decrees,
the nights beguile him awhile, then strike him head-on.
And he suffers as drunkards suffer,
and the bewildered by haunting thoughts: estrangement.
،
A philosopher, a preacher, and an orator,
yet he loves to graze on falsehood’s lush abundance.
Deluded, sinful, abounding in calamities,
and often the close friend follows his companions.
Will radiance return to the heart as a light,
sacred, tending guidance and love?
