1. ،

What shall I say, when all my poetry is love verse?

Bound by passion, its demon drunk.

  2. It wanders through every valley, with no bridle to restrain it.

With beautiful women, earnestness and jest grow sweet.

  3. ،

What shall I say, when my poetry has dwelt among beauties,

As necklaces in which she shines and with which she lines her eyes?

  4. :

    ،

O master of creation, I have come to apologize.

You are the perfume; they are garlic and onions.

  5. ،

God knows a heart in which you dwell.

You are love; they are waywardness and error.

  6. ،

My soul is your ransom, and so are all whom I love.

I have believed, and truth is what the messengers brought.

  7. The station of love for you is too lofty for me to compare it—

So what could the sun, Mars, or Saturn be?

  8. It is enough that you are God's beloved, his chosen one.

And in intercession, you are the dream and the hope.

  9. ،

Without you, O Taha, the earth is idle,

Barren; in it you are the knight, the hero.

  10. And your religion is truth, and the Quran has expounded it.

And without it, the earth fights unjustly.

  11. ، ،

Jesus and Moses are Ahmad's two brothers by lineage,

And in faith and guidance—if only the faiths knew.

  12. Your balance is justice; Gabriel bears it.

And justice is the best foundation on which states have stood.

  13. ، ،

O most merciful of people toward all humankind,

Eve, Eve begs your aid, and so does man.

  14. ،

O my master, as passion overwhelms my talent,

I complain to you, and my heart is fearful and apprehensive.

  15. I ask God's forgiveness for ignorance I repeat,

Openly, and I prostrate myself in my tears and bathe.

  16. ؟!

Will God forgive a sin if I admit to it,

Even if deeds are scant or offer no help?

  17. ،

Or will God heal a person who seeks refuge in him,

Whose life is falsehood, deception, and ailments?

  18. The soul yearns for a prayer niche where I seek refuge.

I have come confessing, weeping and supplicating.

  19. And the time has come for the heart to meet its loved ones.

By God, by God, it seeks guidance and enters communion.

  20. If the poet who sings praises has any gift,

Then in you my poetry will be complete from this day on.

  21. ،

How readily poetry obeys in praise of the beloved! Whenever

I call for it, it comes obediently, so I improvise.

  22. ،

O my Lord, Taha's community has let slip from its hand

A rope you commanded it to hold; then its stratagems collapsed.

  23. And its children wandered hungry, till all grew too narrow for them:

The neighbor, the home, the desert, and the mountain.

  24. A generation has swallowed the oppression of humiliation in a homeland

Whose history holds a model of honor and glory.

  25. It subsists on colocynth, in humiliation and starvation,

Yet its land is gold dust, petroleum, and honey.

  26. And in the invaders' eyes, the generation has come to be seen

Like the ostrich: neither bird nor camel.
