Shall I taste honey from your lips, my love?
A million kisses are no longer enough
I will die of thirst if you do not have mercy
On a heart shattered by passion for you, with no respite
You are life itself, its beauty and joy
To me you are the sun and the shining stars
O all my dreams and the secret of my happiness
On the sea, in the valley, atop the mountain
I have never sailed the raging sea
Except towards you, for you are my sea and shore
And poetry flows effortlessly
When I write it for your love, radiant and complete
With a crazed, hurried glance
You targeted an arrow into my heart that killed me
Love was exposed when I shed my tears
For tears reveal who loves unto eternity
You’ve become in my dream a companion, and in my blood
Embers that ignited with passion and blazed
I sanctified your cheek, worshiped there
And saw how God perfected creation
I have sacrificed patience for your sake
Love gushed forth when hope was lost
If your love is a sin and crime
How lovely are those sins and trespasses
I am your captive, fasting or breaking fast
I have told my family, elders and youths
What can be said if I get drunk on wine
How sweet is drunkenness and tipsiness
Ask me, I have told my notebooks about you
And the letters of my pen and the university halls
I almost scream your name from every pulpit
Not ashamed or hesitant to profess and declare
Expressions failed me during our separation
And I mingled elegy with love poetry
I saw sheets of paper jealous
Of your cheek and eyes that shyly lower their gaze
If you allow an embrace, it's as if
You've relieved an unbearable sorrow
And if you refuse, I will die, and you'll regret
Forever, but there is no solution after death
