روحي، ويُشْعِلُ في العُرُوقِ لَهِيبا
A Damascene magic tears through my soul,
And kindles flames in my veins.
نامَتْ حُروبُ العِشْقِ إلّا في دِمَشْـ
ـقَ فما يَزالُ حَريقُها مَشْبُوبا
The battles of love have ceased, except in Damascus,
Where their blaze remains raging still.
أنا يا دِمَشْقُ أَسِيرُ قَيْدِكِ والهَوى
أأموتُ كالوَضَّاحِ فِيكِ غَريبا
Oh Damascus, I am captive to your bond,
Shall I, like al-Waddah, die a stranger in your midst?
