    A noble honor, peerless eminence

For Najaf is now your glorious residence

O you who defiantly flaps your wings

In the expanse of Karar trembling and quivering

An honor it is whenever lightning flickers

Or any gentle quiver of awe shivers

    With your wings whose fluttering

    To Ali pledges unwavering loving

A peerless honor, nothing else supersedes

For Najaf is now your sanctified abode

If you've paused here feeling uneasy

Then know the prophets too once stood queasy

Or if you've come here bleeding profoundly

Then know the prophets too once bled and drowned

So be humble, for each palmful patch

    Blood of Ali ceaselessly trickling

As the firmaments above seem buckling

So spare us your woeful announcement

You who've come here looking so gallant

Wondrous Hussein! How come nothing here

Turns red - not even the blades of spear?

How can the sky remain so composed

While the branches are trembling and bended?

As if no downpour has happened around

With lightning and rain both astound

The earth of prophets is immune by fate

To all that I now try to narrate

The more it's rained on, more lush it sprouts

While all other earth erodes down in droughts

My master Ali, I beg your pardon

To relax in your peace, I'm starved and famished

You're the zenith wherever words may reach

And the world sips from your hands that teach

So forgive my restless standing here

If it's too much for your shrine to bear

I'm the essence of all majesty gathered

If only under your shade I got covered

If only Furaat's waters at dawn

As tears on your tomb trickled and fawned

O you who's forever caressed and wrapped

In the bosom of hearts that are entrapped

    O you daring, gambling knight

Every eve your stratagem comes to light

O you who captures, yourself staying free

Bowing only to God so meek and plaintively

You're the dawn of Islam, its pearl and gem

Your progeny being its precious realm

That bold youth whose open hand

Brought scriptures down from heavens as planned

And whose closed fist makes hearts convulse and jump

And whose prayer splits doors, scrolls promptly unroll

If his zeal gets provoked, I warrant

Mountains will crack, suns will instantly darken

His sword makes souls quiver and shake

Before eyes can a single blink make

When his pride's aura glows even slightly

Each sun in the cosmos turns nightly

You're the dawn of Islam, its beauty and life

Through your family, Islam shines bright

    O Prophet's cousin, your kindness I implore

Pardon me, the night now stands at midpoint

My pen still quivering, my hand shakes

As I watch my scribbles and lines quake

My being fixated, each limb abject

In my ribs, since twisted into a cage

And my ribs to you cling, paying homage

So permit me, if I'm overwhelmed

By my humility - too great for Najaf to hold!
