My sunset is gloomy and all of me is sunset

And my night is gentle and my sadness is south

The girls of my eyes cooled my cheeks

And my soul wanders in the exile of my confusion

And I send my luck to some of the treacherous

Oh my luck is a torn shirt that is patched up

I am ill-omened, a scream took refuge from me

So my luck turned and problems arose

And they said that I mean my letters

And that the forehead of my poetry is frowned

They blamed me for the stench of my tears

So the friend escaped and the companions left

And I was not an augurer except that

I am miserable, paleness overtook me

So I knew my eyes would show

    Ruin, devastation, and overwhelming death

My homes are in ruins and my quarters are torn

And Jerusalem has a wound that hearts have borne

And Arabness crawls into the bosom of the Jews

And Al-Aqsa is defiled and the people sleep

And Baghdad the Tigris flows with tears

So the heart of Iraq is afflicted with sorrow

And Sanaa you are destined for death in Taiz

And burning winds ravaged it in chaos

We see the tears of the bereaved flowing

And the night of Arabness is pitch black

And the call of free women went silent

Like the silence of graves shrouded by darkness

So if I say "I" then do not blame me

For my soul is a wasteland and my clay is dry

Some of me is scars that will rise as hills

And some of me hills that scars have climbed
