ما جِئتَ حَتّى آيَسَ الناسَ أَن تَجي

فَسُمّيتَ مَنظوراً وَجِئتَ عَلى قَدرِ

You did not come until the people despaired of your coming

So you were called “the Awaited” and you came according to fate

وَإِنّي لَأَرجو أَن تَجيءَ كَهاشِمٍ

وَإِنّي لَأَرجو أَن تَسودَ بَني بَدرِ

And I do hope you will come like Hashim

And I do hope you will master the clan of Badr

وَإِنّي لَأَخشى أَن يَكونَ مُحامِلاً

بِخَيبَرَ مَيّاراً حَريصاً عَلى التَمرِ

And I fear you will carry
