ضممتُها بِكرَ من ضَمَمْتُ

وقبلةً كان ما غنمتُ

I embraced her in virgin modesty

And a kiss that was my only gain

بريئةَ النَّيلِ يعتريها

سكونُ حبٍّ غفا ، وصَمْْتُ

The innocent Nile disturbed

By the stillness of a slumbering love, and I fell silent

يلفُّها الطهر قرمزيّاً

هام على ثغرها ، فهمتُ

Chastity cloaks her in crimson

She swoons onto her lips, and I understand

أَرتشف اللون باشتياق

يهمُّ بي مثلما هممتُ

I sip the color with yearning

It excites me as I excite myself

فأَطبق السرُّ مستباحاً

يموج في كلِّ ما علمتُ

And so the secret overflows unrestrained

Surging in all I have learned

تحبني ... جُهدَ ما تمنّتْ

وتخنق الوهم إِنْ وهمتُ

She loves me...as much as she wished

And strangles the illusion if I imagined

تحبّني جامح التمنِّي

أَنثر في الحبِ ما لممتُ

She loves me, fervently wishing

I scatter in love what I have gathered

وأَنشق الفوح من شذاها

منوّر النفحِ أَينَ رمتُ

And her scent splits open

Illuminated by an enchanting breeze, wherever I cast it

يا قبلةً كلُّها نعيمٌ

حسبي من العمر أَنْ لثمتُ

Oh a kiss completely blissful

My lifetime is enough that I tasted it

ولي بها غاية تُرَجّى

صلَّيت من أَجلها وصُمْت

And through her an aim to be hoped for

I prayed for her sake and fasted
