My insides yearn for you, torn asunder,
My eyelids ulcerated, your brother scattered abroad.
To God I complain of what my wings have borne
And of the anguish you two have caused me to drink.
Were it not for you I'd not have walked the deserts,
Were it not for you I'd have sufficed among the tribe.
If my eyes rain tears and sorrow for you,
Beyond them lies weeping and unending grief.
I fear, O Mahallal, a herald of woe,
And birds of death wheeling, alighting.
