1. لَمَّا رَأيتُ الدّهرَ قَد

    أَزَمَت بوَاجِدِهِ الأَوَازِم

    When I saw fate had

    Brought down its blows with force

  2. وتَتَابَعَت في الأَهلِ والمَا

    لِ المُصِيبَاتُ العَظَائِم

    And misfortunes followed one another against family and wealth

    And time denied me the joy of youth

  3. وَنَفَى الكَرَى عنِّي جَوًى

    هَمٌّ أَجَنَّتهُ الحَيَازِم

    With concerns that have made me anxious

    I made up my mind firmly

  4. قَلّبتُ بِالعَزمِ الأُمُو

    رَ لِتكُفَّ ذَا الهَمِّ العَزَائِم

    To stop this terrible anxiety

    So I remembered that my brother of generosity and constancy

  5. فَذكَرتُ أنّ أخَا السَّمَا

    حَةِ والمُواصَلة المُدَاوِم

    And the keeper of my secrets

    Wherever I have sought the unlawful

  6. والحافِظُ الحُرُمَات مِ

    نِّي حيثُ شَيَّعتُ المحَارِم

    Ibn Shibrimah the accomplished said:

    "Injustice after truth is an oppressor"

  7. قال ابنُ شبرمَةَ الموفَّ

    قُ إنَّ بَعَدَ الحَقِّ ظالم

    A nose too proud to be led

    Into wickedness by oppressions

  8. أنِفٌ أبِيٌّ لاَ يُقِرُّ

    بِاَن تُورِّدَهُ المظَالم

    A sword that, when spears were thrown

    And the disputants flowing in multitudes

  9. فصلٌ إِذَا شَغَبَ الألَد

    دُ وَفَيّضَ الحِجَجَ المُخَاصِم

    Does not bend to blame

    If blamed in truth by a blamer

  10. لا يَنثَنِي لملامَةٍ

    إن لاَمَهُ في الحقِّ لاَئِم

    Awake in seeking the sublime

    While others from that are sleeping

  11. يَقظَانُ في طَلَبِ العُلاَ

    إذ غَيرُهُ عَن تَلكَ نَائِم

    And very clement when the tribes'

    Tents are crowded with thronging men

  12. وسَمَاحَة جداًّ إِذَا از

    دحمت حُد ودُ القومِ زَاحَم

    Of the family of Hassaan whom

    They are the pillars and the supports

  13. مِن آلِ حَسَّانَ اللَّذِي

    نَ هُمُ الذَّوَائِبُ والدّعَائِم

    The protectors when an inviolable is

    Filled if they protect it while it is imperiled

  14. المانِعُونَ المُستَجِي

    رَ بِهم إِذَا مَأ عَاذَ حَارِم

    Until pledges are redeemed

    While honor remains unblemished

  15. حَتَّى تُؤدِّيهِ العهو

    دَ مُسَلَّماً والعِرضُ سَالِم

    They accept no baseness, and no

    Slanderer slanders them with treason

  16. لَم يَقبَلوا خَيساً ولَم

    يَشتِمهُمُ بالغَدرِ شاتِم

    They, though the noses of some folk

    Be vexed at them, are soft-hearted

  17. فهمُ وإن رَغِمَت لِذَا

    كَ أَنُوفُ أقوامٍ رَوَاغِم

    The people of bounty, when bearing it

    Weighs heavy with expenditures

  18. أهلُ الحَمالَةِ حِين يَف

    دَحُ مِن تحمُّلِهَا المُغَارِم

    And the sweet drinking-place which

    The thirsty throng drains to the last

  19. والمَشرَبُ العَذبُ الذِي

    يُروى بِجمَّتِهِ الحَوَائِم

    They are the shelter, the deciders

    When raiders clash in the charge

  20. وهُمُ الأُساةُ الفاصِلُو

    نَ إِذَا تَنَافرَت الأَقَادِم

    They are the white swords, the stirring

    Lances, the shining Indian blades

  21. وهمُ المَسَامِيحُ المَرَا

    جيحُ المَسَاعِيرُ المَطَاعِم

    Those noble deeds and influences

    When nobilities are reckoned

  22. في العام لاَ تَحنُو عَلَى

    أولادِهَا فِيه الرَّوَائِم

    They want no money or wealth

    Of religion and the world's dirhams

  23. وإذا مَعَدٌّ حصَّلَت

    فهمُ مِنَ الرِّيش القوادم

  24. وهُمُ إِذَا مَا الحَربُ شب

    ضَرَامُها الأُسدُ الضّراغِم

  25. قَومٌ حصُونُهُم عِتَاقُ ال

    خَيلِ والبِيضُ الصَّوَارِم

  26. تلكَ المَكَارِمُ والمَأَ

    ثِرُ حِينَ تُعتَدُّ المكَارِم

  27. لا يرجون مالاً وَمَا

    لُ الدِّينِ والدُّنيَا الدَّرَاهِم
