بأبي واللَهِ مَن طَرَقا
كأبتسامِ البَرقِ إذ خَفَقا
By my father and God, he whose steps
Were like the smiling lightning's flash
زادَني شوقاً بزَورتهِ
وملا قلبي به حُرَقا
Increased my longing by his visit
And filled my heart with burning yearnings
مَن لقلبٍ هائمٍ دَنِفِ
كلمّا سلّيتُه قَلقا
Who shall console a restless heart
That quivers more the more 'tis calmed?
زارني طيفُ الحبيبِ فما
زادَ أَن أَغرى بيَ الأرقا
The phantom of my dear one visited me
But served only to redouble my unrest
