طَرَقَ السَمع يا أهيلَ المصلّى
خَبَراً مِنكُم فَزادَ اِشتِياقي
Bring to my hearing, O dear folk of the prayer-ground,
some tidings from you—and they have increased my longing.
مُحكَمُ النَّقلِ قَد رَوته ثِقاةٌ
مُسنَدٌ بِالرّواةِ وَالاتفاقِ
Soundly established in transmission, trustworthy authorities have related it,
backed by an isnād through narrators and by consensus:
أَن سَأَفنى بِكُم وَتَفنى عِظامي
وَرَسيس الغَرامِ في القَلب باقي
that through you I shall perish, and my bones shall decay,
while passion’s deep-rooted trace remains in the heart.
