رَأَيتُ خَيالَ الظلِّ أَكبرَ عبرَة

لِمَن كانَ في عِلمِ الحَقيقَةِ راقي

I saw the shadow's image, the greatest lesson

For one whose knowledge of reality was lofty

شخوصٌ وَأَشباحٌ تَمُرُّ وَتَنقَضي

سَريعاً وَأَشكالاً بِغَيرِ وِفاقِ

Figures and ghosts passing and vanishing

Quickly, and forms without concordance

تَجيئ وَتَمضي تارَةً بَعدَ تارَة

وَتَغنى جَميعاً وَالمحرّك باقي

Coming and going time after time

While the mover of them remains
