1. وَمِمّا شَجاني أَنَّها يَومَ وَدّعت

    تَوَلَّت وَماءُ العَينِ في العَينِ حائرُ

    And what pained me was that the day she bid farewell

    She turned away while tears welled up, confused, in her eyes

  2. فَلَمّا أَعادَت مِن بَعيدٍ بِنَظرَةٍ

    إِلَيّ اِلتفاتاً أَسلَمَته المَحاجرُ

    Then when from afar she glanced back at me

    With a furtive look, her lids bid those tears goodbye
