تَوَلَّت بِهجَةُ الدُّنيا
فَكُلُّ جَديدها خَلقُ
The joys of this world have passed away,
And all that was new in it grew old.
وَخانَ النّاسَ كُلَّهُم
فَما أَدري بِمَن أَثقُ
All people have betrayed me,
So whom can I trust?
رَأَيتُ مَعالِمَ الخَيرا
تِ سدَّت دونَها الطُّرقُ
I saw the signs of good,
But the paths leading to it were blocked.
فَلا حَسبٌ وَلا نَسَب
وَلا دين وَلا خلقُ
There is no lineage or birth,
No religion or morals.
فَلَست مُصَدّق الأَقوا
مِ في شَيءٍ وَلَو صَدَقوا
I do not believe words,
Even if they were truthful.
