1. يا راكباً من فُوق نابي مضمر

    حرا ولد حرا ضراب أَصيل

    O rider above the lofty peaks

    Freeborn son of a free man, a true nobleman

  2. من ساس هجنا يقطعوا لدو والخلا

    وَمشيوعلى طُول النَهار جفيل

    Who crossed the desert sands

    Walking the whole day long

  3. من عقب مرباعو ثمانين ليلة

    لا ما سنامو يا لغلام يميل

    After eighty nights

    Without sleep, o youth leaning aslant

  4. انسف شدادو فوق عالي غواربو

    وكرب وساروا يا لغلام وشيل

    Urge on your swift steed

    As hardship bears down, o lad, and journey on

  5. خوؤ الخرج وَالميركة وماش غيرهن

    وَزهاب من خاص الطعام قليل

    Only Ruwayshid, Mayreekah and no other place

    Has little food in special containers

  6. دربك طَويل أَما هجينك يوصلك

    شعيلان يسيق ثافبات الليل

    Your road is long but your two horses will get you there

    Gray steeds racing through the night

  7. لَولا زمامو يسبق الريح وَالقَطا

    سيدوح مع مد البحور يسيل

    Were it not for their bridles outpacing the wind and lightning

    They would charge like the flowing tide

  8. عدك بعيطه يوم تعلا شداده

    وَلا تظن انهم يلحقوه الخيل

    Watch for them on the day the峰s loom large

    And think not the horses can overtake them

  9. بس أنت كون بيمة الدرب مخني

    وَبالليل نومك لا يكون ثَقيل

    But you just follow the road bending

    And at night, let not your sleep be deep

  10. حذراك من قضابة الشك بالخلا

    تَرى إِنَّ دَربك يالغلام طَويل

    Beware of the thorns of doubt in the wilderness

    You see, o lad, your road is long

  11. اليا قفل عقب الثلاثة وَالأَربَعة

    إِياك في حر السموم تقيل

    And after three or four伊days

    Beware, in the heat of poisons, of wearing yourself out

  12. يا طارِشي جُود كلاما افهمك

    احفظ وَصاتي يالغلام وحيل

    O Tareeshi, listen well to my words

    Remember my behests, o lad, and be cunning

  13. الأوله أَوصيك لا تأمَن الخَلا

    خَلي عُيونك عَالطراف تجيل

    First, I enjoin you not to trust the wilderness

    Keep your eyes on the horizon scanning

  14. وَبِالليل خلي الذاكري في مسامعك

    تَرى السَمع لاضب الظَلام دَليل

    And at night, keep your thoughts in your hearing

    For hearing, not seeing, is guide in the darkness

  15. ما دُون مما يقسم اللَه واقي

    قوي جنانك لا تكون ذَليل

    Not less than what God ordains will protect you

    So steel your resolve, do not be abject

  16. دركتكم للي يراعي زَوالكم

    البين قَلبك وَالضَمير يخيل

    I mean you明 who would seek your ruin

    The heart and conscience lead one to imagine

  17. مِن قسطموني مد عزك فراقها

    نحر هجينك يا ولد تَقبيل

    For letting me extend your glory by parting

    Slit the throat of your steed, o son, and kiss it

  18. عقب أَربعا تَلفي ربوعا بجالنا

    دَربك قَريب وَلا يريد دَليل

    After four days you will be back in our pasturelands

    The road is short and needs no guide

  19. يا حيف يا صفر الشَوارب بانقره

    مقيمين لا يطروا بيوم رحيل

    O Shawareb Peak yellowed by the sun in Anqarah

    Where they stay with no day of departure

  20. سلم عليهم يالغلام جَميعهم

    وَبلغ سَلامي لا تكون هَبيل

    Greet them, o lad, each and every one

    And convey my greetings, do not fail

  21. وَمِنها عَلى شاهر وَجاروم عاني

    أَصحا تَقول إِن القناق طَويل

    Including Shahar and Jaaroom who suffered

    Say truly, the exile was long

  22. يا حيف عشيوخ الجبل في بلادنا

    يعيش النمر مِنهُم فَريد ذَليل

    O Shawareb, elders of the mountain in our country

    The tiger lives on while they are outcast and abject

  23. سلم عليهم يالغلام جَميعهم

    رَدد وَتَرحيب السَلام جَميل

    Greet them, o lad, each and every one

    Echo back the greetings, how beautiful

  24. عَلى يوزغاد الدَرب لازم تمرها

    وَفيها سباع من الرِجال تَهيل

    You must pass through Yozghaad on the road

    Where there are lions among the men roaring

  25. يا حيف يا سمر اللحى من شيوخنا

    يروحوا فراط الحرص وَالتَهميل

    O Shawareb Peak, dark bearded elders

    Who exceeded in greed and coveting

  26. سلم عليهم يالغلام جَميعهم

    وَزهب ذَلولك يالغلام وَشيل

    Greet them, o lad, each and every one

    While your humility, o lad, bears you on

  27. من عقب سبع أَيّام وَلا ثماني

    تَلفي عَلى ذوك القُروم نَزيل

    After seven or eight days

    You will lodge with the Kurds

  28. عِندَ السِباع اللي يَحنوا هجينتك

    وَلا مِنهُم اللي بالطَعام بَخيل

    With the lions who envy your horses

    None of them is stinting with food

  29. خَصص حمد يشدا وَلد طي بِالكَرَم

    وَخَلفة هَزيمة للبلاد دَليل

    Single out Hamad son of Tay with bounty

    And Khalafah conqueror, guide of lands

  30. يا حيف يا ربعا يريعك حسابهم

    وَلا مِنهُم اللي مِن الرِجال هَزيل

    O Shawareb quarter that hosts them

    None of them are emaciated men

  31. بني قيس يُوم الوَغى يَنطحوا العِدى

    وَعزك عَليهُم لا لَفيت نَزيل

    The Bani Qais on the day of battle

    Charge the foe—you will find no better host

  32. برباعهم ياما هفوا الحيل وَالرغث

    وَبنا حجازي يدغثوه بهيل

    With their square banners, how much rubbish they stirred up

    As the Bani Hajez dispersed it with shouting

  33. وَليا لفت غتر المَواجيب وَاقحلت

    وَانسر خزان القَمح بِالكيل

    When their storage pits brimmed over, the granaries burst

    Rations measured out by the bushel

  34. مِن دورهم ياما شبع كل جايع

    في رغد وَلا في سنين محيل

    From their abodes, how many a starving soul was sated

    In prosperity without a year of dearth

  35. يَعطوا سَلايل نعت شزب مقفلع

    لَو الحَسود يقول هاي أَصيل

    They give woven garments beyond price

    Even if the envious called it lavish excess

  36. دَمعي عَلَيهُم خالطو دَم وَانهَمل

    كُل حين مِن فَوق الخُدود يسيل

    My tears mingled with blood and clotted

    Down cheeks ever streaming

  37. عَلَيهُم وَعاللي غيرهم مِن ربوعنا

    ياللعجب وَالويل وَالتَهويل

    For them and others from our lands

    Strange marvels and terrible horrors

  38. وَعزي لقلب قَد تَجرع فراقهم

    مَجروح مِن دُون القُلوب عَليل

    My consolation for a heart that drank their loss

    Wounded among hearts not sickly

  39. وَزاد البَلا فرقة تَوالي ربوعنا

    اللَه يرشد دَربهم تَسهيل

    What exacerbated the ruin of our lands

    May God ease their roads

  40. مِن غَير زَود الطين بَله ببعدهم

    بِالليل تَسمَع للبنات عَويل

    After they left, the homes崩 clay but not clay

    At night, you hear the girls wailing

  41. كُلأ ما حسبت النار يطفا لَهيبها

    يَهب لَها جَوا الضُلوع شعيل

    I never thought its fires extinguished

    The hollow of ribs feeds its flames

  42. يا طارشي سلم عَلَيهم جَميعهم

    وَرَدد سَلامي وَالضَمير دَليل

    O Tareeshi, greet them every one

    And repeat my greetings, conscience will guide you

  43. مِن قيسرية مد عالرحب وَالسعة

    تارن دَربك يا لغلام طَويل

    From Qaysariya across the open plain

    Your road, o lad, remains long

  44. وَليا وَصَلت بديرة الترك أَذنا

    وَبَعدين مرعش وَالطَريق وَصيل

    And when you reach Diyar Bakr then

    Halt your steed, o lad, and lodge

  45. عَلى ماردين دِيار بَكر بجالها

    وَانخ هَجينك يا لغلام وَميل

    And from there to the Arabs settled around it

    Speak judiciously, do not be brusque

  46. وَمِنها عَلى الشَهبا العَرب في رُكونها

    أَحكي وَلسانك لا يَكُون ثَقيل

    Including Hama and Homs, you must pass them

    Greet the lands of Syria courteously

  47. حَماه وَحمص الشام لازم تَمرها

    حَيي بِلاد الشام بِالتَبجيل

    Fragrant breezes that revive the soul and senses

    Will heal you if you are sickly and infirm

  48. الفَيحا اللي تجذب الرُوح وَالحَشا

    تَشفيك لَو انك مَريض عَليل

    From the rising of Libra and the stars in the heavens

    Whose rising in Syria is like Canopus shining

  49. مِن طَلعة الميزان وَالنجم بِالسَما

    مِن الشام نَحرها طُلوع سَهيل

    Your road passes by its slopes and hollows

    Flooded by the Jayid torrents

  50. دَربك عَلى نَحبها وَهك النَوابي

    عَلى الجَعيدي عايمين السيل

    Hauran's freshwater pools will show themselves before your eyes

    You gaze on its peaks like the Nile

  51. يبديك حوران العذية بناظرك

    تراعي هضابه مثل شكل النيل

    At noon when the sun occupies the dome of the sky

    Your brother, venerable Shaykha the Bountiful, will host you

  52. الظَهر يُوم الشَمس في قبة السَما

    مَلفاك أَخو شيخا الكَريم خَليل

    How plentiful, o raider of the lofty place, brother of Shaykha

    His line is the longest of lines

  53. نَعمين يا ذيب السَرى ياخو شيخا

    خَطك عَلى كُل الخُطوط طَويل

    Tether your humility and skirt the bank next to him

    And you will rest in a garden even if the years render it desolate

  54. نُوخ ذَلولك وَانسف الكُور جانبه

    وَعدك بروضه لَو السِنين محيل

    As for the others from our lands

    There are none who shoulder burdens like them

  55. وَاللي خلافه مِن مَنادر بِلادنا

    ما فيهم اللي للحمول يشيل

    Or the helpless people with meager portion

    The deaf cannot walk without a guide

  56. وَالعانة اللي ما لها نصاب كبها

    الرَهو ما يَمشي بِغَير دَليل

    Swords of Bali with honorable lineage the red does not show itself

    Even if it was an Indian sword polished smooth

  57. سَيفا بليانصاب ما يَظهَر الحمر

    لَو كانَ هِندياً شطير صَقيل

    If the great ones are at peace, the small ones will be at peace

    The mighty will inevitably become abject

  58. إِن راحَت كِبار القَوم راحَت صغارَها

    لا بُد ما يغدي العَزيز ذَليل

    I gave good advice and communicated my speech meaningfully

    I am no guide for the blind of heart

  59. نصحت وَأَبلَغت الكَلام بِنَصيحَتي

    وَماني لعميان القُلوب دَليل

    Today my talk is not sincere advice

    My advice went forward when speech carried

  60. أَما كَلامي اليَوم مابو مَناصح

    نَصحي تقدم يُوم قال وقيل

    When it was like onions piled on rubble

    Scum of men disbanded

  61. يَوم غَدَت مثل البصل روس وَاوبشت

    وَتقلط اللي من الرِجال فَسيل

    The blind ones made it a plaything until it was destroyed

    Hoping for restoration from paltry men

  62. لعبوا بِها العميان لا ما تَهدمت

    راجي عِمارَه من الرِجال ضَليل

    They attacked its fortress and felled its wolf

    And it became a pond for elephants after us

  63. وَكر حصينيها وَصادون ذيبها

    وَصارَت مراغة عقبنا للفيل

    And I am not blaming the sweetwater pools of Hawran

    Or giving reasons and making excuses for it

  64. وَلاني عَلى حُوران العَذبة مَشافي

    وَلاني لَها بِالهَجس وَالتَعليل

    My cares are only to see them and gladden my heart

  65. مبلالي لحودا يطرب القَلب شوفهم

    بيهم عِظام الغاليين ذَفيل

    In them are bones of ones most precious

    My thoughts find rest if my eyes see them

  66. يَرتاح فكري لَو رَأَتهم نَواظِري

    وَمِن غَيرِهم مالي وَزين عَديل

    Without them, I have no companion or match

    You see me proud among the strangers

  67. تَراني حشيم النَفس بَين الأَجانب

    وَلا عمر نَفسي عَالزهيد تميل

    Never does my soul incline to the ascetic

    If the envious rejoice and gloat over our situation

  68. لَو يشمتوا الحساد بَيننا وَيفرَحوا

    الأَيّام يَعقبن الرَحيل نَزيل

    Days are lodgers, departure inevitable

    Days gestate and days give birth

  69. الأَيام يَحبلن وَالأَيام يولدن

    مثل الأناثي مِن القدار تَغيل

    Like females of ostriches brooding

    And I conclude my words with prayers upon the Prophet

  70. وَاختم كَلامي بِالصَلاة عَلى النَبي

    يَشفَع لَنا مِن الهَول وَالتَنكيل

    Who will intercede for us against violence and torment
