1. غَنى الَّذي يَشكو من البُعد وَالجَفا

    أَشكو لِمَن ما في التراك أَجواد

    The one who complains of distance and estrangement sings,

    I complain to those who lack generosity and nobility,

  2. أَشكو لِمَن ما في فَخر قَط وَمنفعة

    وَلا أَرتَجي مِنهُم صَلاح وَكاد

    I complain to those who lack pride and benefit,

    And I don’t expect from them righteousness and help.

  3. ما يفهموا مني لغاتي غَريبة

    وَلا يرحموا اللي من غر أمود باد

    They don’t understand my strange languages,

    And they don’t have mercy on the one who came from afar.

  4. وَلا من صديق بفش همي إِذا طفح

    وَلا مِن كَريم الناس إِليه تنقاد

    Not a friend with whom I can share my worries when distressed,

    Nor a generous person to whom people are led.

  5. سِوى القرقره وَالمرمرة في لغاتهم

    هرجا شَنيع يفتت الأَكباد

    Except discordant babbling in their languages,

    An ugly confusion that shatters the livers.

  6. يا حيرَتي يا ناس ضاقَت بَصيرَتي

    كَما حار رَهوا تاوه القواد

    Oh my confusion, O people, my insight has narrowed,

    As the lost one wandered, the slave of passions wandered.

  7. وَضَعنا كَما ضاعَت ذهاب الرَعايا

    في بر مُوحش ما لَها رُواد

    We were placed as the shepherds were lost,

    In a desolate land that has no visitors.

  8. أَنا محنتي في بَلوَتي مع رفاقتي

    بِكَثير عَن ذولي تَرى تَزداد

    My affliction in my trial, along with my solitude,

    Is much more than what you see, it grows.

  9. وَخان الدَهر ما شنع مهاوي مضاربو

    الياسطا خيم عَلى الطَريح وَجاد

    And time betrayed, how vicious are its pits,

    Despair camped over the fallen one and was generous.

  10. يَعطيك حق للسما إِن راد يَنهضك

    وَبقول لك عيش بَهنا وَرغاد

    It gives you the right to hope if it wants to elevate you,

    And tells you: “Live comfortably and in prosperity.”

  11. وَينكس عليك برغم عَنكَ يحدرك

    خوان مالو بالعباد وداد

    Then it declines upon you against your will and degrades you,

    To pits that have no affection or sympathy for people.

  12. يا مؤامنين الدَهر كُونوا عَلى حَذَر

    ترى الدَهر يا ما بوصفا وَنكاد

    O faithful ones, beware of time,

    You see time, so much in description and malice.

  13. تَرى الدَهر ياما بو عجايب مُنوعة

    تَرى الدَهر ياما بو طرب وَحداد

    You see time, so much in diverse wonders,

    You see time, so much in joy and grief.

  14. تَرى الدَهر ياما بو حلاوة وَلذة

    تَرى الدَهر ياما بو مرار حداد

    You see time, so much in sweetness and pleasure,

    You see time, so much in bitter sorrow.

  15. تَرى الدَهر ياما بو محادير ضيقة

    تَرى الدَهر ياما بو فجاج بجاد

    You see time, so much in narrow complications,

    You see time, so much in open plains.

  16. تَرى الدَهر ياما بو خليين بالهم

    تَرى الدَهر ياما بوهموم طواد

    You see time, so much in those who leave worries,

    You see time, so much in recurring sorrows.

  17. تَرى الدَهر ياما بوليالي هَنية

    تَرى الدَهر ياما بو أَيام سَواد

    You see time, so much in happy nights,

    You see time, so much in days of darkness.

  18. تَرى الدَهر ياما بو ضحاوي وميسرة

    تَرى الدَهر ياما بو محول جَماد

    You see time, so much in mornings of prosperity,

    You see time, so much in reversed destiny.

  19. تَرى الدَهر ياما بومعزة ومنجده

    تَرى الدَهر ياما بو مذلة زاد

    You see time, so much in honor and aid,

    You see time, so much in humiliation and loss.

  20. تَرى الدَهر مثل الأَفعوان المبتر

    لين وسمو المرواح نفاد

    Time is like the truncated snake,

    Gentle then lethal, endless in cunning.

  21. غدار خوان المَواثيق ما وَفى

    مَعنا وَلا مَع غَيرنا ينقاد

    The betrayer of pacts did not fulfil,

    With us or others, it cannot be tamed.

  22. لا صار هذه يا جماعة خصايلو

    صَبراً جَميل الصَبر خير زَاد

    This has become, O folks, of its traits,

    Patience, beautiful is patience, the best provision.

  23. نصبر لعل اللَه يحسن خلاصنا

    وَينعم علينا الواحد الجَواد

    We endure, perhaps God will improve our rescue,

    And bestow upon us, The One, The Generous.

  24. لِأَن أُمور اللَه تَمشي عَلى قَدر

    عَن دركها العقل المثقف حاد

    For the matters of God proceed according to destiny,

    Beyond the perception of the enlightened mind.

  25. وَدي أَقتصر عَن كثر الهرج وَاكتفي

    وَانظم معاني محبكات جداد

    And enough of the ample nonsense, I suffice,

    And compose meanings beloved by ancestors.

  26. مَن خاص ما يجني جنتهم قريحَتي

    بمثال ما يلزم لَها نقاد

    Those who are special do not reap their harvest my inspiration,

    With an example that does not require critics.

  27. صار القَلم يَكتب قَوافي كَلامها

    مِن فُوق قرطاس الطلاحي جاد

    The pen has come to write the rhymes of its words,

    On top of the parchment sheets pouring forth.

  28. يَشرح عَلى ما حاق قَلبي مِن الضَنا

    مِن واهجا تَلي الضَمير وَزاد

    Explaining what has confined my heart from grief,

    From an ardor that clings to the soul and grows.

  29. مِن بَعد ذا يا راكِباً نَضو جافل

    اشقح شَراري مثل ظَبي حماد

    After this, O rider, set out travelling,

    Urge your steed like an oryx in rut.

  30. حر عماني يَقطع الدو وَالخَلا

    وَمشيو على طُول النَهار طراد

    A hot Omani crossing the valleys and terrains,

    Walking the whole day searching.

  31. وَلم هداك اللَه يا طارش النيا

    وَانسف عَلى ظَهر الظَليم شداد

    And God has guided you, O Tars the doe,

    And rush on the back of the smooth-haired camel.

  32. شداد اعويد الميس سالم من العطب

    شغل القصيم اللي قفا بغداد

    Smooth-haired camel, I wish it health from defects,

    The work of buttocks that faced Baghdad.

  33. منسوف عادل من الخز غالي

    وَلكن من ضيم الزَمان سَواد

    Weaving from special silk, so expensive,

    But from the injustice of time, gloom.

  34. إن نشدك اللي يراعوا سمارو

    قلو السَواد من الحواب حداد

    If its decline makes you worry,

    The gloom of ashes from embers is grief.

  35. الميركه من شال ترما ثمينة

    مصبوغة عقب الحمار سواد

    The saddle from a fox fur, so precious,

    Dyed behind the donkey, gloom.

  36. وَمشربشة بعهون تلعب مع الهَوى

    وَمطرزة في ريش ربد نفاد

    And pleated, playing with the winds,

    And embroidered with feathers of grouse so scarce.

  37. وَخرجا بَديع الرنك من ديرة الحَسا

    يرهج شبيه الجَوهر الوقاد

    It went out wonderfully colored,

    Gleaming like glowing embers.

  38. مع لَواليح لا نسم الريح يرفلن

    يشدن لخطاف السحاب إن ماد

    With ornaments, no breeze makes it flutter,

    Attracting to the hook of clouds if extended.

  39. كرب حزامو وَالمَواسير وَالحقب

    وَاوفد عليه وَمهد اللباد

    Tie its knees, and the belts and straps,

    And bid it farewell and smooth the scales.

  40. وَخوذ الذهاب اللي عَلى الدَرب يَنفعك

    تَرى مَعناكُم يا غُلام بعاد

    And the supplies that benefit you on the road,

    You see, we have provided for you, O youth, from afar.

  41. بس أَنتَ كُون بيمت الدَرب بخني

    وَاحفظ وَصاتي وَذمل المطراد

    But you be the sea of the road with insight,

    And preserve my commandments and fill the vessel.

  42. الأَوله إِياك يا طارش الخَلا

    بِالليل عينك لا تنود نواد

    First, beware O Tars of terrains,

    At night do not let your eye sleep.

  43. وابعد عن اللي به مراكز من القُرى

    وَكل النَواحي لِلرِجال بلاد

    And avoid places with establishments from villages,

    And all sides are countries of men without buildings.

  44. وَقبل أَربعة اياك تَرخي زِمامه

    وَامشي الياهب النسيم براد

    And before the four, beware you slacken its reins,

    And walk the blowing of the easy winds.

  45. قوي جنابك وانهج الدَرب وَاتكل

    وَعَن غيب ربك ما يجيك نكاد

    Fortify yourself and take the road and trust,

    And do not fear what would afflict you from the unseen.

  46. وَدعتكم لِلّه رَبي وَخالقي

    وَدركتكم لشعيب وَالمقداد

    I left you to God, my Lord and Creator,

    And guided you to Sho’ayb and Al-Miqdad.

  47. الصُبح من سيناب زُوع مع العفا

    وَانهج عَلى مَد الفَضى مداد

    The dawn from Sana’a, race with vigor,

    And take the endless plain.

  48. وَاجمح عليها الصور لا تنحر الحَرس

    تَرى ان نضوك يا غُلام جَواد

    And urge it on, do not slacken the guard,

    You see, we race you O youth, a stallion.

  49. يَمم على ميواط نحر ذلولك

    وَصامسون بِاليسره عليك تكاد

    It turns towards Meewat, slaughter your cattle,

    And they bid farewell to you, about to depart.

  50. وَسلم عَلى محمود وَحامد ربعنا

    بجاروم ماتوا وَالمَنايا بعاد

    And greet Mahmoud and Hamed our folks,

    In Jarom, they died and death is remote.

  51. يا حيف عاكسابة الحَمد وَالثَنا

    يصّيعوا بديران الترك بداد

    Oh what a loss, the people of praise and glory,

    They resided in the abodes of Turks uncultured.

  52. على يوزغا وَحث نضوك عَن البَطا

    وَفيها بَعد لينا رُبوع وَكاد

    Climbing Youzga and rouse your zeal against fatigue,

    In it, still, for us plains and pits.

  53. أَقري سَلامي ثُمَ بَلغ تَحيتي

    عَلى الكُل مجمل لا تخص فراد

    Recite my greetings, then convey my regards,

    To all in general, do not specify individuals.

  54. يا حيف عَلى ربع المعزات وَالكَرَم

    ياما لَهُم تَحتَ العَجاج طراد

    Oh what a loss, a people of honor and generosity,

    What do they have under millstones grinding.

  55. من طَلعة الميزان وَالضو لا بَدا

    حث الهجين وَسير يانجاد

    From the rise of Libra, certainly,

    Rouse the zeal and walk O diligent one.

  56. وَمحريك عقب الثلاث وَالأَربَعا

    عَلى قَيسرية ضيف يا قصاد

    And hasten after the third and fourth,

    To Qaisariya guest O reaper.

  57. عِندَ القروم اللي يبادوك بالكرم

    وَابشر وَلَو هُم في مرار وَنكاد

    Where the generous who endow you with generosity,

    And glad tidings, even if they are in bitterness and affliction.

  58. يا حيف عاكسارة الخيل بِالقَنا

    كِرام اللحى إِن شح قُوت الزاد

    From Qaisariya walk O Tars the doe,

    To our near road of the zeal.

  59. من قيسرية سير يا طارش النيا

    عا أَدنا دَرب الهجين حماد

    To Mardin and the abodes of Bakr in its terrain,

    And from there to Ash-Shahba a smooth rest.

  60. على ماردين وَديار بكر بجالها

    وَمِنها عَلى الشَهبا سَماح مهاد

    Protect and rouse your vigor against fatigue,

    Without stopping, do not spend the night.

  61. حماه وَحمص وَحث نَضوك عَن البَطا

    مِن دُون جلق لا تَبات وَكاد

    From the rise of Libra and Suhail, certainly,

    Taurus and your path O youth comes to its end.

  62. من طَلعة الميزان وَسهيل لا بَدا

    ثور وَدربك يا غُلام نفاد

    From Ash-Sham clothe yourself, pass Ethnan Qubla,

    To Al Ghadir, to Al Miqdad stretch your purpose.

  63. من الشام عالكسوة عاذنون قبلي

    عالغدر عاتبنه على المقداد

    Plant, clothe yourself to the monastery your intention,

    To Al Mujaimir and the clear road leads.

  64. عازرع عالداره عَلى الدير نيتك

    عَلى المجيمر وَالطريق بياد

    When you come O Tars the terrains,

    None other than this O boy, no more.

  65. لاجيت بكا ريح يا طارش الخَلا

    ما غير هذه يا ولد ما عاد

    Rest your cattle and descend the hills aside,

    And fold the text in lines of ink.

  66. نوخ ذَلولك وَانسف الكور جانبو

    وَانطي المسطر في حروف مداد

    The hand of Abu Jabir the valiant named,

    And the perfect horseman, but his time has passed.

  67. ليد أَبو جبر الشجيع المسمى

    وَفارس تمام أَما زَمانو باد

    Grey hair O Athiab son of Ghanim,

    Oh what a loss, the tiger of the valley has aged.

  68. الشيب عيا عاذياب ابن غانم

    لا يا خَسارة شاخ نمر الواد

    As for my greetings, those who share my dwelling,

    If not for old age, visitors of wars attack.

  69. أَما سَلامي ماضيات مضاربو

    لَولا الكبر زير الحُروب يكاد

    Greet Muhammad, Abdi, and Fares,

    And their family who kindle the heat of embers.

  70. سلم عَلى محمد وَعَبدي وَفارس

    وَعيالهم يشدوا حرار هداد

    I complain to them that I am a grieved sufferer,

    For the separation of those who became pillows of affection.

  71. أَشكي لَهُم أَني حَزين مُوجع

    عَلى فرقة اللي توسدون لحاد

    For missing Jabir that confused my plans and might,

    And Naif the horsemen with continuity.

  72. عَلى فَقد جبر انهد حيلي وَقوتي

    وَعَلى نايف الفُرسان بالمطراد

    Tears dripped above my cheeks,

    Oh what a loss, before a while they gathered.

  73. رشراش رش الدَمع فُوق عارِضي

    لا يا خَسارة قبل حينة انصاد

    You see their loss O uncle shook my resolves,

    And summoned my worries to the lions roaming.

  74. تَرى فَقذهم يا عم خلخل عَزايمي

    وَادعا هُمومي عالفهود طواد

    You see their loss O uncle weakened my sides,

    As if I am in affliction without guidance.

  75. تَرى فقدهم يا عم ضعضع جَوانِبي

    كَأَني من البَلوى بِغَير رَشاد

    You see their loss O uncle whitened my cheeks,

    And summoned my tears to the cheeks abundantly.

  76. تَرى فَقدهم يا عم شيب عَوارضي

    وَادعا دُموعي عَالخُدود بداد

    You see their concern O uncle from the greatest afflictions upon us,

    But that’s how your Lord has willed.

  77. تَرى همهم يا عم من أَعظَم البَلا

    عَلَينا وَلَكن هيك ربك راد

    My head turned white and my plans vanished from estrangement,

    And my body faded from the sight of visitors.

  78. رَأسي صفا وَأَنبَت حيلي مِن الجَفا

    وَجسمي اِختَفى عَن مَنظر العواد

    I stand before them as if facing them,

    My heart has not deviated from their love.

  79. عَلى الدُوم أَشخصهم كَأني قبالهم

    ما يُوم قَلبي عَن هَواهُم حاد

    Oh what a loss, those valiant lions,

    From the finest strains among tribes.

  80. يا حيف عاتلك السباع البَواسل

    من مقطع أَقصى مِن البُولاد

    Horsemen generous when meeting, noble when giving,

    And intimate in tales, family of the generous.

  81. فُرسان بِاللقا كَريمين بِالعَطا

    وَنسين بِالمَحكى عيال جَواد

    You see our oppression, worries, and sorrows,

    When they departed from us in columns of righteousness.

  82. تَرى ضيمنا وَالهَم وَالغَم وَالنيا

    إِذا قوطروا عَنا بفير سَداد

    This is my words, my greetings, and my trial,

    For the distance I console you without purpose.

  83. هَذا كَلامي يا سَلامي وَبَلوَتي

    عَالبُعد أَعزيكم بِغَير مراد

    I endure even if I tasted afflictions from enemies,

    For patience for mankind is the best provision.

  84. أصبر وَلَو ذُقت البَلاوي مِن العِدا

    تَرى الصَبر لِلإِنسان خير الزاد

    Perhaps it may relief and the love changes,

    And he rides his she-camel one day searching.

  85. لَعَلها تفرج وَيتغير الهَوى

    وَيَركب عريفتها بِيوم طراد

    We seek the flocks of faith and hold accountable those,

    Who worked with the books corrupting and spreading immorality.

  86. نطلب قَطايع الدين وَنحاسب الَّذي

    عمل بكتتا بالبوق وَالافساد

    You see me grieved, devoid of righteousness and guidance,

    Upon them and those who were brought up with us then perished.

  87. تَراني حَزين وَعادم الرُشد وَالهُدى

    عَلَيهُم وَعاللي من جبلنا باد

    And my worries a caravan of camels cannot carry,

    Oh heart, from the bitterness of time abating.

  88. وَهَمي فيال الهند تَعجز تشيله

    يا قَلب من مر الزَمان وراد

    Pray upon the one who ennobled the land his mention,

    The regulator of the order of existence by numbering.

  89. صلوا عَلى من شرف الأَرض ذكره

    ضابط نِظام الكُون بالتعداد
