My passion overflowed when I saw you in my dream,
My tears are flowing and my bones are shattered,
From much suffering, O friend, and torment,
My shooting star faded at the separation and yearning.
After that, I readied ten horses,
That raced like spinning wheels,
Swifter than those cutting the land for irrigation,
Without lingering, like the flight of a pigeon.
The first is a special-bred horse,
With a firm saddle none bothered with,
You can trust it even if ridden in empty expanses,
But you own its rein and halter.
The second, its shame, from its wanderings,
Whenever I remember God, when they went astray,
Swifter than a spinning wheel in moving its steps,
Since created, it never stopped for a bridle.
The third, a red-bay thoroughbred,
Outracing gazelles in its running,
Its price unmatched with hundreds of gold coins,
Even if penniless, it’s brought out for guests.
The fourth, a beautiful, fat gray,
Hard to cross the plains steadily,
That walked one morning from Medina’s land,
To find Damascus, Syria before nightfall.
The fifth, came from Nejd, a free purebred,
From the line of Saud’s horses, never halting,
Grazing on the meadow’s plants and truffles,
Never finishing its square mile.
The sixth, six mares for each lady,
That even the Prince couldn’t rein to his side,
Its range between Ohbahk and Suwaidah,
And watering place between Sali and Rammi.
The seventh, Glory to God who created it,
Walking southward, compliant with its friends,
A falcon, unmatched in its speed,
Rushing you before returning greetings.
The eighth, never nearing enclosures,
Or cooled under shaded pavilions,
Grazing the blossoms of meadows and herbs,
Never finishing its square mileage fully.
The ninth, came to us as a gift from She'al,
Outstripping the blowing of autumn winds,
Were it not for its chiming necklace and anklets,
None would prize it save tying on saddlebags.
The tenth, lofty and arrogant in her walking,
A gray ostrich cutting through the plains,
When a hunter rises, it moans like a sand grouse,
Lost in oceans of darkness without guideposts.
The steeds numbered ten by my count,
With no accounts held against them,
Rise and mount them, O light pack,
And guide them to meadows and deliver my words.
Take care, O people of noble horses,
From atop the saddlecloth to the seeker,
I reached you, by God, Khidr, and Shuaib,
From the evil of adulterous illegitimate sons.
I came from Qasim with ten mares,
With ornamented saddles and does,
All who saw them said, “those are giraffes”,
And those upon them like full moons.
Their accessories in their saddlebags cost a fortune,
And those who bought them did not contemplate losing them,
I forgot their reins made of brass wire,
As for the bits like a minaret’s lights.
Ten young horses of thoroughbred line,
When whipped in the stomach and flanks,
Girded up like Jinn horsemen,
My family who know what is intended.
O people of steeds, your steeds, release them,
Above the saddles, your souls, forget them,
As for the towns you want to herd them,
Through them you roam, and through them wilderness.
From Azmir, they extended seeking lights,
The first day, they took them out on patrol,
If they lingered like tired sand grouse,
Lost in oceans of darkness every year.
At dawn, ten Turks rang up,
Saying, “Our steeds were stolen today,”
O friend, in their tongue, you don’t know,
A guest has no esteem in their homeland.
From behind nine bends,
And from the lock, they became Jinn’s fingers,
O people of steeds, turn back north,
Take the right, expect guideposts.
Udiyaar, Bukair, and Mardin in its hills,
Oh Halab Plain, rally behind it,
Hama and Homs, awaken and spend the night near it,
Urgently to Fayhaan, receive my greetings.
O you atop ten steeds,
Retreat unto my family and helpers,
The path ahead is difficult and the acacias thorny,
To the plateau, to the meadows.
Over there turn, Azir Fortress, O Thrush,
Let them know, hardened at nightfall,
Honored beards, slaughterers of schemers and rams,
With bloody swords atop them, the clarified butter abundant.
O people of steeds, your steeds, accept them,
Facing the destinations, your steeds, house them,
Read the letter, deliver them in safety,
They understand the meaning of my words’ composition.
We were all, without doubt, blessed in our quest,
We did not become conceited, O friend, and we were not arrogant,
We who crossed the seas, distanced ourselves,
O Generous, we did not hand them over to gloaters and blamers.
We came to your families, Azmir Fortress,
You slaughtered many armies and regiments,
Well done, O Ma'rouf’s family, basil’s sellers,
When the Europeans like pouring rain.
The successors betrayed us before the traitors,
May God reward them for what they do,
Whoever trusts them is undoubtedly insane,
Who feels safe with snakes, has no greetings from me.
The later ruins destroyed all the expanses,
Look towards another clay jar then the valleys,
And Aqail, Halli was the emir of Henadi,
Since Abu Hawash frame and pillar.
And Bechir Jumblatt and Harfosh
And Lebanon’s people who remained the burning passion,
The West’s great men, they became sellers of chickens,
How they scrambled, paper bills went to the gallows.
The later ruins destroyed all the tribes,
May God replace the evil of whoever was wicked,
They made us, O Banu Uthman, trenches,
With help they collected our branches and twigs.
In their sea many swimmers drowned,
Abandoned, O you circling land and winds,
If they farmed it with graves and apples,
The bow of Nada is perfect through them.
Send prayers upon the Chosen One, Master of mankind,
To intercede for us during the crowds of creation,
At the moment when saliva in throats dries up,
On the Day of Resurrection when we are gathered.
