1. نبتدي باسم حي لا يزيل

    رافع الدُنيا عَلى سبعة طباج

    We start in the name of the Ever Living

    Who raised the world upon seven heavens

  2. إِن هم القَلب مِن صَدري يزيل

    تا تنام العين ليلة بالطباج

    If worries remove my heart from my chest

    Until the eye falls asleep at night

  3. يا نديمي حار فكري وَالدليل

    اختل رملي يَوم بينا الدَهر باج

    O my friend, my thoughts are confused, the proof is

    My sand has been disturbed, when time raged

  4. ما بقي لي بالملا مرشد دَليل

    شوف قَلبي مِن غُبون الهَم باج

    No guide or proof remained for me in power

    See how my heart is disturbed by worries

  5. قُلت هيا بالقَلب مشفى الغَليل

    عالذي يفهم معانيها حراج

    I said: With the heart is the cure for anguish

    For he who understands its meanings, difficult

  6. ويل مِن مثلي مكبل بِالغَليل

    جايبينو الترك عاسوق الحراج

    Woe to one like me, shackled in anguish

    The Turks have brought him to the slave-market

  7. قُلت يا دَهر المَشقة لا تَعيل

    لا تَقول إِنَّها لقتلي بالوفاج

    I said: O fate, do not weaken from hardship

    Do not say it will kill me suddenly

  8. قال خلي الصَبر عَنكَ لا يعيل

    إِن كان رَأسك مِن غَرام السكر فاج

    It said: Let patience be away from you not weaken

    If your head is drunk from love-sickness, sober up

  9. قُلت صَبري عالبلاوي مستحيل

    وَانخبل فكري وبي الكَون ضاج

    I said: My patience for afflictions is impossible

    And my thoughts are confused, with the universe clamoring

  10. قُلت يا دَهري مَتى يَشفى العَليل

    وَتتبدل أَيام نحسي بِالفراج

    I said: O my fate, when will the sick recover

    And my unlucky days change to relief

  11. قال هات واكتب وَغنيلي عاليل

    بَعد ما عرفنا الدُيوك مِن الفراج

    It said: Come, write and sing to me at night

    After we've learned to distinguish dawn from relief

  12. قُلت يا دَهري الفَرج ظَني طَويل

    كَيفَ رَأيك في دَوانا وَالعِلاج

    I said: O fate, I think relief is far

    What do you think of our council and treatment?

  13. قال دَع عَنكَ القَصيرة وَالطَويل

    وَالسَوالف وَالمَحاكي وَالعِلاج

    It said: Leave short and long from you

    And small talk and imitation and treatment

  14. هادي دُنيا شرها دايم وصيل

    وَالحُكم خوان ما ودها علاج

    This world's evil is always connected

    And rulers are brothers, they don't want treatment

  15. من آمن النادوس وَالأَفعى وَصل

    ما وَجد لسمهم قالوا علاج

    Whoever trusted the snake and viper and connected

    Didn't find an antidote, they said and treatment

  16. قلت يا دَهري متى وَدنا نحيل

    وَيكرم الخلاق ربك بِالفَرج

    I said: O fate, when do we become thin

    And the Creator Lord rewards you with relief?

  17. قال أمرك لا إله العرش حيل

    وَالقَدر مثل المعارض بِالفراج

    It said: Your matter is not up to anyone but the Lord of the Throne

    And fate is like the new moon with relief

  18. كَم وَكَم مثلك عبر عاهل سَبيل

    وَالبَحر لا هاج يلطم بِالمواج

    How many like you have crossed the path

    And the sea rages, hitting with waves

  19. شُوف لَو ذبيت دخان السَبيل

    تنعكر منو عُيونك وَالمواج

    See, if the smoke of travel angers you

    And clouds your eyes and the waves

  20. كانَ فرغ الصَبر مِنكَ يا هَبيل

    وَابتدت نيران قَلبك بالعلاج

    Your patience was empty, O fool

    And the fires of your heart sparked with treatment

  21. قلتلو دخان قَلبي وَالهبيل

    طاف مِن فُوق الرَوابي وَالعلاج

    I said to it: The smoke of my heart and ember

    Has risen above hills and treatment

  22. أَنتَ يا دَهري ابن الفين جيل

    كَيف رَأيك شُور شُورك بِالوفاج

    You, my fate, son of many generations

    What is your view, speak plainly with relief

  23. قالَ فكري دُوم أَنا فيكُم يجيل

    مَن يقول الميت بَعد اللَحد فاج

    It said: My thoughts are always wandering amongst you

    Who says the dead speak after burial? Relief!

  24. شُوف جَرحك يا وَلدو شَليل

    هاي قلي طعمها مر المَزاج

    Look at your wound, boy, it is slight

    Come taste it, it's bitter medicine

  25. وَالفَرج في صرة تَحتَ الشَليل

    إِن كان ودك أَن تخلي بِالمَزاج

    And relief is in a pouch under the slight wound

    If you want to stay with the bitter medicine

  26. أَما أَنك سهج الديرة بِليل

    عالنجم خلي مسيرك وَالبراج

    Or you, conflicted at night in the village

    To the stars, set your course and sails

  27. تَأكل الخُبز المعطن وَالبَليل

    تاتشوف قُصور صَلخَد وَالبراج

    Eat stale bread and beans

    Until you see the palaces of Salaheddine and sails

  28. إِن طعت شُوري بغير ذولي لا تخيل

    ثُم باب اللَه تَرى بابو فجاج

    If you're patient without those, don't imagine

    Then God's door you will see is wide open

  29. قُلت لَو هِيَ بِالمناز هَمول خيل

    يَوم قبوا مثل غُزلان الفجاج

    I said: If it were up to me, I would prepare horses

    The day they accept like gazelles to the wide open

  30. دَع فكارك عَن شواري لا يَميل

    هاي ما ودها ملاوح عَالسراج

    Let your thoughts away from the conflict not incline

    It does not want waving of torches for light

  31. هاي وَدها مشي كُل يَوم ميل

    بِالدُجى مِن غير ما تشعل سراج

    It wants walking every day a mile

    In darkness without lighting a lamp

  32. أَم بسيدوحا عَلى المية يسيل

    يَكدَح الدُخان مِنهُ يَوم ماج

    Is it spilling its tears on the water flowing

    As smoke billows when it rages?

  33. وَلا خلي الدَمع مِن عَينك يَسيل

    وَعد نَفسك مثل شَخص راح ماج

    Do not let tears from your eyes flow

    And promise yourself like someone who left raging

  34. قُلت يا دَهري الك عِندي خَليل

    لا كبار الترك مرين المزاج

    I said: O fate, I have a friend

    Not the great Turks who reject medicine

  35. قال وَحياة المكلم وَالخَليل

    كُل عُمر الترك تَغدر بِالمزاج

    It said: By the life of the speaker and friend

    The Turks always betray medicine

  36. ذول من يرجى مراحمهم ضَليل

    وَالأَفاعي لَو مَشَت تَمشي عواج

    Those whose mercy is hoped for are lost

    Even if snakes walked they would walk bent

  37. غَير رَب العَرش أَبو الظل الظَليل

    يفكنا من هل علوج بلا عواج

    Except the Lord of the Throne, shade in shade

    He will save us from these states without being bent

  38. ذوق حر الملح لا جاه الفَتيل

    لا تحسب رفقة الدَولة غناج

    Taste the bitterness of salt, do not prefer kindling

    Do not think the companionship of power is singing

  39. عقب كدك مع تعبهم وَالفتيل

    يَسحبوا كحلات عينك وَالغناج

    After your struggle with their fatigue and kindling

    They draw your eyeliner and singing

  40. من عقب نيران قلبي وَالشعيل

    صار مذبوح القلم عالطرس زاج

    After the fires of my heart and flames

    The pen is slaughtered on the paper cutting

  41. خانضت الدَهر المشقا وَالشعيل

    كَم شلع ضرساً متين بغير زاج

    I have tested fate and flames

    How many tough molars it broke without cutting

  42. لا تقول الروز ما مني ثقيل

    لا بغا ربك دعا دُنيا كراج

    Do not say the path is not heavy for me

    Your Lord wants to call the world temporary

  43. من فكارك يا عشيري الهم قيل

    هاي دُنيا مثل دُولاب كَراج

    From your worries, my clan, the concern is little

    This world is like a spinning temporary

  44. ما يخلد به كبير وَلا جليل

    غير وَجه اللَه الكَريم الحَي باج

    It does not last except the Generous Face of the Living Lord

    How many powerful sultans have left

  45. كَم هفت مِن كُل سلطان جَليل

    عقب عزه من معاه الدَم باج

    After power, those with him are the shallow graves

    This world's evil is always connected

  46. هاي دُنيا شرها دايم وَصيل

    كُل ما قلنا غَداً طال الخناج

    Tomorrow we'll say, it was long-winded speech

    I did not think these people were loyal

  47. هالربع ما ظنتي فيهم أَصيل

    ينشل الغرقان من قبل الخناج

    To save the drowning before drowning

    After that I tightened the long rope

  48. عقب ذا شديت عرماسا طَويل

    ما تحقو لو مَشى وَسط العَجاج

    It would not be straight walking among thorns

    It does not fear the road even if long

  49. ما يهاب الدَرب لَو أَنو طَويل

    شادو مني معنا لأَبو عجاج

    Take from me, we'll go to Father of Thorns

    What is your view and proof, you old wise man?

  50. كَيف يا عصاص رَأيك وَالدَليل

    هالامور تعىبشت فوق السياج

    These matters have become disordered over the fence

    It is clear to me in battles and proof

  51. بان عندي بالملاحم وَالدَليل

    ما بقي ببلادنا واحد سياج

    No one remains in our country with a fence

    The stranger lives in the world humiliated

  52. الغَريب يعيش في الدُنيا ذَليل

    وَالذَليل المَوت خير مِن الدَواج

    And humiliation, death is better than being fenced in

    If the crops became humiliated in their land

  53. الزَرع لَو صار في أَرضو ذَليل

    يَأكلونه بساع رعيان الدَواج

    The sheepherders would eat them at the fence

    Tears flowed from the eye on the eyelid pounding

  54. فاض دَمع العَين عالمقلة صَليل

    مِن أُمور الدَهر فوق الخَد هاج

    From the affairs of fate above the cheek raging

    You always hear the pounding of my heart

  55. دُوم تسمع لا صَدا قَلبي صَليل

    مثل ناقوراً هدر وَالبَحر هاج

    Like a fountain roaring and the sea raging

    I ask You, my Creator, to carry my concerns

  56. أَسألك يا خالقي همي تشيل

    بِجاه خَير الخَلق يا جَبار حاج

    For the sake of the best of creation, O Great Need

    Or to carry my soul from my body

  57. أَو أَن الرُوح مِن جسمي تشيل

    بِجاه كُل مَن زار بَيت اللَه حاج

    For the sake of all who've visited God's House in pilgrimage

    Then pray on the noble guiding Prophet

  58. ثمَ صَلوا عَالنبي الهادي الجَليل

    صاحب الرايات لِلصالح ملاج

    Whose banners are raised for the righteous refuge

    Make the days of my exile noble

  59. يجعل الأَيام عالغربة جَليل

    حَيث ملنا غَير باب اللَه ملاج

    Where we have found no refuge but God's door
