1. سار مذبوح القلم أَوحى الصَرير

    فوق طَليحة بَدا يَنثر لباه

    The slain pen's murmur flowed

    Over Talhiya as it began scattering its madness

  2. وَاشتغل دولابها فَنا يدير

    وَاليراع انهل يرعف من لماه

    And its wheel turned composing

    While the shepherd was awed by its glitter

  3. قُلت ها يا راعي السن الصَغير

    هات جاوب مغرماً دَهرو بَلاه

    I said, oh young shepherd

    Respond passionately to the eternal afflicted one

  4. وَاطرس القافات عالكاغد وَسير

    هاج بحر الفن وَازبد من علاه

    And dictate lines on paper, unleash the sea of art foaming from its heights

    The shepherd with his reed’s murmur responded like an echo with no reverberation is heard

  5. راع باعود القَصب اوحي الهَدير

    مثل رَعل لا قصف تسمع دَواه

    And held back the rhythm’s surge, the thoughts returned to the paper after overflowing

    He said, I’m here, able

  6. وارزم الدلال وَاشتد السَعير

    من كثر حر الخزارق وَلسناه

    My weapon’s sharper than a spear’s blade

    Give me what you have of crafted meanings and refined arts

  7. فاض تيار القَوافي لَو خَرير

    رد فكر الفَن عَالكاغد حداه

    I said take it easy my brave one, the commotion has ebbed

    No longer fear the flood will take you away

  8. قال لبيك إِنَّني رجل قَدير

    وَحربتي امضى مِن حراب القَناة

    And destroy you, oh little sinful shepherd

    While your reed gets dragged by the current

  9. هات حَتّى نشوف مَن باعو قَصير

    بالقَوافي وَالمَعاني وَاللغاه

    He said, my sin is but a small current

    For my hollow reed bears no burden

  10. بِغَير رَسمي قَط ما يحصى اليَسير

    وَلا قَليل وَلا كَثير إِلا مَلاه

    Except my deeds, I did not betray you, oh expert

    I fulfil my duties like soft ambergris

  11. صنعتي طرس المَعاني وَالضَمير

    جيب من عِندَك فُنون منقداه

    I said yes, even if your reed is insignificant

    We were all swept by your tune carried away

  12. قلتلو يا أَسودي فاض الجَهير

    زل خايف يا خذك سيل المِياه

    And scattered like smoke from burning chaff

    Each went towards his master called

  13. واعدمك يا راعي الجرم الصَغير

    وَأَنتَ عودك يَسحبو سرب المِياه

    The boats crashed between us, we despaired

    Some were thrown into Rhodes prisoner

  14. قال جرمي يا خذو السيل اليَسير

    حَيث عُودي أَجوَف ناحل حَشاه

    Some, our master relieved by death

    Some in the west fell into pits

  15. غير فعلي لا بخنتو يا خبير

    في المَواجب مثل عَنبر بي لقساه

    Buried, relieved of life

    Those of us alive if the call is made

  16. قلتلو نعمين لَو عودك حَقير

    كُلنا من رعفتك رُحنا هباه

    Carry food after digging the canal

    Serving vile people, glory to the Almighty

  17. وَشتتونا مثل دُخان السَعير

    وَكُل شَخص بِجال مَولانا نَفاه

    That the hawk submits to the farmer

    After being an enemy shrieking defiance

  18. وَذوملت بَينا السفاين به مخير

    بِاللجاج من فَوق تَيار المِياه

    And not fearing death on the day we meet

    As for those in Al-Faiha who wallowed

  19. وَدخن البابور يدوي لَو صَفير

    وَقلعونا وَانقطع مِنا الرَجاه

    They tasted bitterness after sweetness

    They did not find shrouds, rather were buried disgraced

  20. وَبعضنا زَجوه في رودس أَسير

    وَبعضنا باكريت مَولانا هَفاه

    Thrown into pits atop soil

    As for those of us around, fatally struck

  21. وَبعضنا في الغَرب وَقعوا بِالحَفير

    دَفَنوهم وَاستراحوا مِن الحَياة

    None but the Lord of the Throne decrees healing

    Away from their children, with no rain

  22. وَالَّذي حيين لا صاح النَفير

    يَنقلون الشُورَبا عُقب القَناه

    As the officer always walks behind them

    Among people devoid of any righteous men

  23. يَخدمون أَنذال سُبحان القَدير

    كَيفَ طير الباز يَخضَع للقطَاه

    More stingy than Aba Hussain Al-Afeer's dogs

    They hate a guest even if he brings his own bread

  24. بَعدَما هم عالعدا يَرخوا الجَرير

    وَلا يَهابوا المَوت في يَوم اللقاه

    They hate carrying wood on donkeys

    While some are whale hunters

  25. وَالَّذي في جلق الفَيحا قَهير

    ذوقوه المُر مِن بَعد الحَلاه

    I ask you, my Creator, oh Most Kind

    Oh God of the Throne, oh Lord of the Skies

  26. ما لَقوا دَفان جروهم جَرير

    دملوهم بِالحُفَر فَوق الثَراه

    Oh Exalter, oh Healer of broken bones

    You are the Lord of people, none can judge but You

  27. وَالَّذي مِن حَولنا جرحو خَطير

    غَير رَب العَرش يَأمر في شِفاه

    Oh Benevolent One, relieve this difficult situation

    And help the oppressed among us in affliction

  28. مِن عيالو وَالبُعد مالو مطير

    وَكُل حين الضابطي يَمشي قَفاه

    You, our Worshipped One, are the All-Knowing

    We have no refuge but Your door

  29. بَين قَوم ما بهم رَجل بَرير

    غج عن دُون البَوادي وَالرعاه

    Thus we are, oh My Creator, and You are Able

    For the Chosen One's honor and the prophets

  30. ابخل من كِلاب أَبو حسين العَفير

    يَكرَهون الضَيف لَو خُبزو مَعاه

    Have mercy on those who are like the blind

    Their eyes are open yet they cannot see

  31. كارهم نقل الحطب فَوق الحَمير

    وَالبَعض صَياد حيتان المِياه

    Every day we face raging fires and embers

    From the Turkish army's attacks seeking booty

  32. أَسألك يا خالقي يا براً كبير

    يا إِله العَرش يا رَب السَماه

    And afflictions, disasters, and burning chaff

    Each determined to achieve what he desires

  33. يا علي يا جابر العَظم الكَسير

    أَنتَ رَب الناس ما غَيرك حداه

    If I wanted, I could say much more

    So much I have endured from the hands of enemies

  34. يا كَريم تفرج الأَمر العَسير

    وَتُنجد المَضيوم مِنا مِن بَلاه

    But I will shorten it, a little suffices me

    I hope the Guardian alleviates it from His heights

  35. أَنتَ يا مَعبودنا خابر خَبير

    مالنا مِن دُون بابك ملتجاه

    And my heart and conscience find peace

    When seeing the beloved well-mannered youth

  36. فَكُنا يا خالِقي إِنكَ قَدير

    بِجاه سر المصطَفى وَالأَنبياء

    Pure as stars in the sky after sunset

    I hurried to them but the wall appeared

  37. ارحم اللي بَينَهُم مثل الضَرير

    لَوعيونو مفتحا كنو عَماه

    Closed, cursed be the one who built it

    The path to the open plain, we walked it and more

  38. كُل يَوم بضامري نار وَهَجير

    مِن حواب التراك نشحين الملاه

    As we crept up on it from the east

    They tore us apart and I cried bitterly

  39. وَالبلاوي وَالمَصايب وَالسَعير

    كُل واحد مستقل بِما بَغاه

    And fled terrified like prey hunted at night

    As dawn rose the next day I travelled

  40. وَلو بَغيت أَحكي بَعد عِندي كَثير

    كثر ما راعيت مِن جُو العِداه

    Over strained muscles and sinews

    You are pure if a bird is locked in a cage

  41. اختصرت وَقُلت يكفيني اليَسير

    عل يفرجها المهيمن من علاه

    Do not fear the path even if it is long

    I came to you, oh expert leader

  42. وَيَستريح القَلب مِني وَالضَمير

    عِندَ شوف الربع حلوين النِباه

    To a sheikh from Taylan’s branches

    Sheikh Abu Muhammad Ismail the famed

  43. بَعد ذا مِن فُوق علمين النَضير

    مِن رِكاب التيه عجلين الخطا

    Successor to Hizima, lion rending enemies

    The one who set principles the day the world shook

  44. شد كُور الميس مِن فُوق الحَرير

    فُوق مَنبور النَوابي وَالقَطاه

    Prepare for when the battle unleashes its horror

    Like Abu Zaid Al-Hilali in battle

  45. كَربو وَأَمكَن حزامة وَالمَرير

    خُوف مِن سحوان لا ثور رَماه

    The horsemen's downfall if they become arrogant

    Longing's fervor began scattering its madness

  46. بميركه يا مع هدبها مستدير

    بريش هيج نَعام مِن شان الغواه

    Chasing honey and the sharp sword

    Above it like gazelles seeking water

  47. وَالخرج مَرقوم مثلو ما يصير

    مِن ذَهب وَهاج غالي مُشتَراه

    If the horses sniff it, it stirs in them fervor

    Hot are its claws dripping their blood

  48. وَاللواليح يَوم يغووا بِالمسير

    مثل خطاف يميد مَع الهَواه

    Abu Muhammad interceded, oh minister

    A special one from the highest of positions

  49. هيه يا راكباً نضواً مستكير

    مثل شامور مدخن عالمياه

    Scattered on the day of battle like tumbling hail

    Bringing joy to nomads when they hear his cry

  50. شيل زهبا فوق سحوان المغير

    ضيف بر الترك ما حيا دُعاه

    If he had brothers in the burning chaff

    How many orphans would seek refuge in his care

  51. دركتكم للمصطفى الهادي السَفير

    عِندَ شنعين الملاقا بِالخلاه

    A cave, a good shelter protecting its people

    The leader of horsemen on the momentous day

  52. الصُبح مِن سيناب قبل الضوسير

    ريت نجم من السَما يخسف بَناه

    A sheikh, the lesser of them exceeds in generosity

    Especially from the heads of positions in the highlands

  53. اجمح علينا الصور اشلك بِالغَفير

    بابها مَقفول يلعن مَن بَناه

    They serve honey and camels to the guest

    And are quick to offer villages to visitors

  54. الدَرب عالبيواط زملها وَغير

    وَنحرن صمسون شرقيها سِواه

    The one who calls them when they march

    With spears inspiring awe when thrown

  55. وَقسطموني انهجا وَارخي المَرير

    وَانقرا وَشاهر قَرا حروة عَشاه

    They assemble a courageous and intrepid army

    Provided for when they draw swords

  56. وَالصُبح مِن يَوم فج الضو سير

    فَوق مَفتول السَواعد وَالذراه

    They do not fear death though piles of bodies

    Over the highlands they pursue the prey

  57. أَنتَ نضوك لَو قفل طيراً بِطَير

    لا تَهاب الدَرب لَو طُول مَداه

    Elders among them capable in their prime

    Especially from the heads in the expanse

  58. نوخو لا جيت قيصر يا خَبير

    عِندَ شَيخ مِن فُروع طايلاه

    With generosity they pass around goblets and camels

    And are quick to offer villages to the guest

  59. الشيخ أَبو محمد سماعيل الشَهير

    خلفة هزيمة لَيث كباد العِداه

    The caller of whoever attends of them in the evening

    Criticize me openly on the day of battle

  60. صاحب الناموس يُوم الكُون زير

    خي شما ضيغمي عطب الهَواه

    Then your brother the formidable warrior

    Successor to the late eminent Kasab

  61. حيد يوم الموزما يرخي الجَرير

    مثل أَبو زيد الهلالي باللقاه

    None can succeed Ismail but him

    A lion succeeds a lion, wounding with his claws

  62. عيب الفُرسان يومنو بغير

    شُوق غطروفا بَدا يَنثر غواه

    Weaving a white egg, Badr adorning it

    Ismail made it glorious, best of racers

  63. يَلحَق العسال وَالسَيف الشَطير

    فَوق نَضوه مثل غُزلان المَهاه

    Tell them about me, oh esteemed messengers

    Blaming benefits not, it yields no solutions

  64. لا لفى عَالخيل توحي لَهُ هَدير

    حر هيلع مَخلبو يذرف دِماه

    How did the Pasha and the counsel trust

    While you abandoned your people without peers

  65. صلف أَبو محمد شَفا وَيا وَزير

    خاص مِن روس المَناصب في علاه

    Why did you not consider your people with equals

    When we were struck in the abandoned wilds

  66. منسفو يُوم الغَلا مثل الغَدير

    يفرحوا الخطار لَو سمعوا نَباه

    Before you, around us we were a warning

    Between the two Shan'a, and Al-Lajja

  67. لَو شَوايع في مجذبات السَعير

    كَم يَتامى يَلتجوا داخل حِماه

    I had no warning of what befell me

    But one like you, may God forsake him, betrayed me

  68. فرز مثلو في البَوادي ما يصير

    كَهف ملجا زين مَضيوما نَصاه

    Those who believe them, small is their mind

    Their foundation is built on treachery

  69. مقدم الفُرسان في اليَوم الكَبير

    شيخ علمه شوص في يُوم الوَغاه

    Where did the Malati sheriff go and perish?

    And Jumblatt of the sect, he is done with

  70. الهنادي جَمعهم يُومن يسير

    التفنك بيدهم يرعب رماه

    Where is Abu Hawash Ismail the benevolent?

    Where is Ibn Jarrar and with him the guide?

  71. جَمع اربد بِاللُقا جَمعاً فَرير

    يرزقون لا لفوا ينطي قَفاه

    Where is Ibn Harfoosh the prince of Baalbek?

    And Yusuf Al-Hamdani, his head targeted

  72. ما يَهابوا المَوت لَو فج الذَخير

    فَوق ضَمر يلحقوا سُمر القَناد

    Where is Abu Qawiq'tain the great?

    They ruled Afsad and its lands, encompassing them

  73. شُيوخ أَدناهم عَلى الجُوده قَدير

    خاص مِن روس المَناصب بِالفَلاه

    Where is the son of Sha'lan and the leaders of Samir?

    Where is the brother of Balsa providing its people with water?

  74. بِالكَرَم يَنطوا السَلايل وَالبَعير

    وَبِالغَلا للضيف عجلين القَراه

    Where are the two sheikhs, Badawi and Dhafeer?

    Where is the son of Sa'doon, sultan of the mice?

  75. الهنادي من حضر مِنهم شوير

    عابني مَعروف يَوم الموزماه

    They were scattered by events and by the small

    And how many emirates drowned in water

  76. تلو أَخو شَما النداوي الخَطير

    خلفة المَرحوم كساب الثَناه

    While the like of us slept many times on mats

    And every image of rule was corrupted by traitors

  77. عقب سماعيل مثلو ما يصير

    لَيث عقب لَيث جارح مِن ضَناه

    All those, in our times tasted humiliation

    From the evil acts of the Turks, vile and betraying

  78. زبن بيضة خدَها بَدراً يُنير

    عزها سماعيل زين الجايداه

    Whoever trusted their faith, no doubt went blind

    Those people partially survived by betrayal

  79. كلمو يا رسل عني يا سَمير

    وَلومه وَاللَوم ما يجني حَلاه

    Whose foundation is faults built by the unworthy

    Who betrayed them, blamed them among nobles

  80. كيف آمنت البواشه وَالمُشير

    وَأَنتَ زبنك فتر قيسان اللجاه

    Even if the Turkmani swore oaths and warnings

    The Abbasid, by God, lied even if he narrated

  81. ليش ما راعيت ربعك بِالنَضير

    يُوم بذونا بديران الهَفاه

    Whoever trusted the lines of the counsel’s paper

    And its seal, died in the land of oblivion

  82. قَبلَكثم في حول خلونا نَذير

    بَين شنعين الطَوائف وَاللغساه

    Where is the Mustafa guide's covenant?

    Where is God's order, abandoned by the vile?

  83. ما عَلى ما صابَني ظَني نَذير

    بللذي مثلك منفه بي فَضاه

    Where is the assurance of the sultanate, was it trivial?

    Where is his opinion and guaranty he gave?

  84. ذول من يلآمن بهم عقلو صَغير

    ساسهم مبطي عَلى الخونة بَناه

    They think people, our state is but donkeys

    Not seeing their own faults without guile

  85. اين راح المالطي السالف بَشير

    وَجمبلاط الطايفة قَد أَتلاه

    Their justice put the faithful in burning chaff

    And the partisan, our lord's pardon shaded him

  86. أَين أَبو هواش إِسماعيل خير

    أَين اِبن جرار وَالهادي مَعاه

    Their justice made the sheikhs and the monks equal

    The military and the servants all refugees alike

  87. أَينَ اِبن حَرفوش في بعلبك أَمير

    وَيوسف الحَمدان راسو مَن رَماه

    Their justice made small and great equal

    Woman and sheikh, hardship makes them equal

  88. أَينَ أَبو قويطين الحاسي الكَبير

    عاصفد وَبلادها حكمو ضَفاه

    Giving two piastres to the great man

    And the small, one, enough for him in exile

  89. اين ابن شعلان وَشيوخ السمير

    أَين أَخو بلشه ببصرى مِن سقاه

    What use is two piastres if you harvest great yields?

    And lentils, beans, and wheat are enough

  90. أَينَ شيخان البَداوي وَالضَفير

    أَينَ اِبن سَعدون سُلطان الفراه

    They pay out sequins and fine silver

    While those without dignity, it's as if they're blind

  91. وَالظَواهر شَتتةهم وَالزَغير

    وَكَم أَمارة غرقوهم بِالمِياه

    Those who hope for their mercy are fools

    About their actions among nobles

  92. وَمثلنا كرات ناموا عالحَصير

    وَكُل صور الحُكم بالخونة فَلاه

    Whoever falls into their grasp, gigantic enemy

    None but the Lord of the Throne delivers him from evil

  93. كُل ذولي بدورنا ذاقوا النَكير

    مِن فِعال الترك خَبيثين المَلاه

    And dirhams out of sentiment, not desire

    With a house neither willed nor wanted

  94. مِن وثق بإِيمانهم لا شَك عير

    ذول ناس لبعضهم ملهم بَقاه

    Every fault is trivial next to their deeds

    And any people's blame, they evaded

  95. ساسهم عالعيب من مبطي جَدير

    من بخنهم ذمهم بين المَلاه

    Then pray upon the guide prophet

    The Chosen One, victor over enemies with him

  96. وَلو أَمان التركواني بِالنَذير

    الهاشمي وَاللَه يكذب لَو حَكاه

    Concluding for those who endured their afflictions in good

    When we stand barefoot, deprived of all

  97. من وَثق بخطوط قرطاس المُشير

    وَختمه قَد مات بديار الهَفاه

  98. أَينَ عَهد المُصطَفى الهادي البَشير

    أَين أَمر اللَه خانوه الرَداه

  99. أَينَ أَمان السلطنة ما هوَ صَغير

    أَينَ رَأيه وَالأَمان اللي عَطاه

  100. يَحسبون الناس دَولتنا حَمير

    ما يشوفوا العيب مِنهُم لا بداه

  101. عدلهم حط المؤامن بِالسَعير

    وَالمحزب عَفو مَولانا غَشاه

  102. عدلهم ساوى المَشايخ وَاليدير

    عسكرية وَالخَدَم صاروا نَفاه

  103. عدلم ساوى الكَبير مَع الصَغير

    وَالمرا وَالشيخ ينطوهم شَداه

  104. يصرفوا قرشين للرجل الكَبير

    وَالصَغير قرش في الغُربة كَفاه

  105. فاعلك قرشين لَو تحصد كَثير

    وَالعدس وَالفُول وَالحنطة كَفاه

  106. ينقد الإبريز وَالفضة الخَبير

    وَالَّذي ما لو شرف كنو عَماه

  107. ذول من يرجو مراحمهم غوير

    عَن مَواضي فعلهم بَين المَلاه

  108. من وقع بيناتهم عَدو ببير

    غَير رَب العَرش ينشل في رَشاه

  109. وَالدَراهم لا رتشا حل المَرير

    وَدارَها مِن خاطر وَلا مِن بغاه

  110. وَكُل عَيب بجنب ما يَجروا حَقير

    وَكُل ذَم الربع لاذوا مِن وَراه

  111. ثُم صَلوا عَالنبي الهادي البَشير

    المُصطَفى المَنعوت وَالعداة مَعاه

  112. يَختم لِمَن عانى مَصايبهم بِخَير

    يَم نوقف كُلنا عَرياً حفاه
