    أَدهم رُجوع الرأس سرجو يماني

    O you who sit atop the Suhwah of 'Ubayyan

  2. مضمر سَريع الجري بالكون لَو شان

    مخبا لحزات اللقا من زَماني

    You conceal your swift gallop across the universe as though it were nothing

    Hiding from the meetings of fate since my time

  3. خُذ لي كِتابي لعمدة جَبل حُوران

    مَناصب عربي وَعرمان كُل العَياني

    Take my letter to the chief of Jabal Huran

    Of Arab and Armenian positions, the notables all

  4. ميل عَلى دار شبلي بك بديوان

    حي وعزي أَهلها عَن لِساني

    Incline to the abode of Shibli Bey in his bureau

    Greet him alive and mighty through my tongue

  5. قُلهم لَو مات شبلي ركن الدار عمران

    حُبي جَناب البيك يَحبى المكاني

    Tell them were Shibli to die, the pillar of civilization's abode destroyed

    My love for the Bey would hold dear the place

  6. مَنصب يضاهي إِمارة بَني نَبهان

    سلم عدد ما غَرد الكيرواني

    A position rivaling the Emirate of Banu Nabhan

    Safer than the melodies sung by the aged poets

  7. حيي مَناصب رِجال الهوش فُرسان

    بيض العَمايم وَالعلم أَصبهاني

    Greet the horsemen, men of intellect, riders of distinction

    White turbans and banners of Isfahan

  8. شلفاتهم حيروا الدكتور لقمان

    تَخشى الأُسود لَو جَردوا الهندوان

    Their slaps bewilder doctor Luqman

    Lions cower should they unsheathe blades

  9. طعناتهم دُوم تلسع ثُعبان

    بِالدرع يعبر كعبها وَالسناني

    Their stabs constantly sting snakes

    Breastplates split by their strikes and teeth

  10. غزوا عنزي وَشمر وابن شعلان

    وصلوا لفعال عنتر وَهاني

    They invaded 'Anazi, Shammar, and Ibn Sha'lan

    Reached the feats of Antar and Hani

  11. كان قيدومهم راعي الشويمان

    شبلي أَبو محمود رُكن اليماني

    Their arrival startled the shepherd boys

    Shibli, Abu Mahmud, pillar of Yemen

  12. مِن قبل ما ضمت الخرسا ملتومان

    من عام بان لي الفعل ما خَفاني

    Before the Kharas were united by rulers

    Since the year evil deeds became clear to me

  13. شفت الشبل منقطع بالغاب عيان

    جاحت عليه الأُسود أَول وثاني

    I saw the lion cut off in the woods plain as day

    The wolves descended on him, first and again

  14. شفت كوكب هبط وَالفجر بالقان

    ادعا جبال الشامخا سمهداني

    I saw a star fall as dawn broke with clouds

    Trembling mountains, hearing the news from Samhadani

  15. ركن السويده انهدم وبراج عمران

    بيت الكبير وَصهره القهرماني

    The pillar of Sweden collapsed, the towers in ruins

    The home of the great one and his heroic in-law

  16. أَضحى عرين الأسد بالشرق خرمان

    تشتتوا الأَشبال بالصحصحاني

    The lion's den became devastated in the east

    The cubs scattered into the thickets

  17. يا حيف سبع البَوادي غط ما بان

    حامي الحِمى ساطي عَلى كُل عاني

    Oh what a loss, the beasts of the valley disappeared from sight

    Protector of sanctuaries, walking every path

  18. سنجق بني مَعروف عامود حوران

    كانت قُلوب الضد منو مَلاني

    The regiment of the honored Ma'ruf, pillar of Houran

    Whose hearts had been filled with me

  19. بِالشَرق ما ربت متلو بنات بدوان

    وَلا بَنات الكرج وَلا التركماني

    In the east no women were raised like the Bedouin girls

    Nor the girls of Karj or the Turkmen

  20. منصب وَمنهل يَروي كُل عَطشان

    في مَقر الطرشان ناصب وَباني

    A position and spring quenching all who thirst

    In the abode of Tarshan, founder and builder

  21. يا دار ياما لفاكي وزر وَأَعيان

    وَياما التجا ليكي موكب مهاني

    Oh house, how much glory and ministers visited you

    And what processions humiliated came to you

  22. يا دار كُنتي لَجا السركس وَسكمان

    يلطي بظلك كل مجرم وَجاتي

    Oh house, you were home to the chiefs and rulers

    Shading all criminals and sinners

  23. تلقي خطاطير الضحى وَالدار عمران

    قوم تهني وَقَوم تَطلب أَعاني

    You receive the letters of the morning, though civilization's abode is ruined

    Some congratulate while others request aid

  24. صُور صلخد وَقَلعة الذردخان

    ارتج ركن الدار هَل كان عُمراني

    Depicting Salakhid and the fortress of Dhardukhan

    Shaken, the pillar of civilization - was it ever civilized?

  25. تَبكيك زَينب يا حسن وَلد سرحان

    نَديمة السادات ام المَعاني

    Zainab weeps for you, O Hasan son of Sarhan

    Patron of the aristocracy, mother of purpose

  26. يا باني القاعة عَلى عشر عمدان

    فاقَت عَلى قَلعة علي وَالترشحاني

    O builder of the hall upon ten pillars

    Surpassing the fortress of 'Ali and Trashani

  27. مفرشها نسج حياك من خراسان

    سجادها غالي الثَمَن أَصبهاني

    Its furnishings woven by the skilled of Khurasan

    Its carpets expensive, of Isfahan

  28. وَستورها منظمة أَشكال وَأَلوان

    من أَفخر الديباج وَالأَرجواني

    Its curtains embroidered with shapes and colors

    Of the finest brocade and purple silk

  29. لوزرتها ظَنيتها دار سُلطان

    دِيوان كِسرى صاحب الصولجان

    Its furnishings, one would think a sultan's abode

    Diwan of Kisra owner of the curved sword

  30. مهباجها ما يبطل دُوم رنان

    يَطحن بِيوم وَلَيل أَربَع ثَماني

    Its mill never ceases grinding night and day

    Four measures of coffee and spices mixed

  31. البن وَالهيل ضمن الدار ما ينزان

    عَنبر وَجوز الطيب ملوا الجراني

    Ambergris and aloewood never lacking in it

    Grape molasses and perfumes fill the jars

  32. نجمة الصُبح تسكب مية فُنجان

    سَكب العجم أَرباب أَهل الأَمان

    The morning star spills hundreds of cups

    The foreign-born servants of the peaceable people

  33. ضَيفها مَكروم مِن لَحم خرفان

    وَمن الرز النَقي وَالزعفراني

    Its guests honored with lamb meat

    And pure rice and saffron

  34. خدام تَسقي شَراب أَشكال وَأَلوان

    في قاعها ياما تكسر قناني

    Servants offer drinks of diverse shapes and colors

    How many cups shattered in its hall

  35. صَهوة دروز مرجه جَنة بُستان

    جَنه عَدَن وَجَنة البرهجاني

    It's balcony overlooks a garden paradise

    A heaven, Eden, and the Eternal Garden

  36. أَشجارها عنب وَتين وَرُمان

    وَالخُوخ وَالتُفاح وَالبردقاني

    Its trees are grapes, figs, and pomegranate

    Peaches, apples, and apricots

  37. خزام عتر وورد وَزنبق وَيهمان

    زَهر القرنفل مَع عتر شاني

    Bushes of myrtle, roses, lilies, and jasmine

    Carnation blooms with fragrant basil

  38. وَطَير النيا غَنى أَشكال وَلوان

    طير الكَريم وَالدر والكيرواني

    Birds of all kinds and colors sing

    Turtledoves, shrikes, and partridges

  39. ديك الحبش بَط أَرنَب وَغُزلان

    وَالوز وَالطاووس وَالفرقداني

    Ducks, peacocks, and guinea fowl

    Under Shibli they frolicked without fear

  40. في وَجه شبلي يموجوا في كُل أَمان

    حامي الحِمى بِسَيف الرَهيف اليَماني

    Protector of sanctuaries with the curved Yemeni sword

    Today carrion crows take what was theirs

  41. وَاليَوم أَضحى غراب البين غنمان

    بنالو فَوق نجم الثريا مَكاني

    Swooping to the place of the Pleiades

    Today they head towards Paradise

  42. وَاليَوم كوطر نحو جَنة رضوان

    دار البَقا فَردوس أَهل الأَماني

    The eternal abode, haven of the peaceful

    O Bey, ponder the explanation and meanings

  43. يا بيك دق النظر في الشرح وَمعان

    قَبل سقاك البَين كاسك سَقاني

    Before the cupbearer serves your drink

    After you, O Bey, the people of the house will despair

  44. وَبعدك يا بيك أَهل الدار يتمان

    صُروف الليالي لا يَزهو بِها مَكاني

    The nights' rotations do not favor the place

    I warn you of fate - fate is a traitor

  45. أَحذرك من الدَهر فَالدَهر خوان

    ياما دور هادمها وَباني

    It has toppled so many buildings and rebuilt them

    Your world, so long as it remained for you, was like Kisra's and Canaan's

  46. دُنياك ما دامَت لكسرا وَكنعان

    خانَت بذي القرنين فَرد زَماني

    It betrayed Dhul Qarnayn who turned back time

    Whoever hopes in it is always disappointed

  47. مَن يَرتَجي بِها دوم خَسران

    لا يَخضع إلى دار الشَقا وَالأَماني

    It does not submit to the home of misery and wishes

    Master of the Ghazals, without doubt you have triumphed

  48. صاحب الغانمي لا شَك رَبحان

    جاها وَمَعروفا باقي غَير فاني
