1. يَنهى محبك انَّهُ مشتاق

    وَالى حماكَ تهزه الأَشواق

    Your lover complains that he longs

    And toward your caress he is shaken by passions

  2. قَد كانَ يَحسب اِنَّ حبّك هَيِّن

    فَاذا بِه يا غصن لَيسَ يُطاق

    He had thought your love would be easy

    Yet here it is, O branch, unendurable

  3. خُذ وَصف حالَته فَأَما قَلبَه

    فَهوَ الكَئيبُ الساكِن الخَفّاق

    Take the description of his state - as for his heart

    It is the sorrowful, calm, fluttering one

  4. وَجدا وَأَما دمعه فَسحابَة

    هَتانَة جادَت بِها الآماق

    And his tears are a cloud

    Pouring with which the water-skins overflow

  5. وَكَفاكَ حال متيم لعبت بِهِ

    من بَعد هَجرِكَ لَوعَة وَفُراق

    And enough of the state of Mutim whom you’ve played with

    After your estrangement - anguish and separation

  6. يَخفى الغَرام تجلدا فَيُذيعه

    قَهرا عَلَيهِ دَمعُه المِهراق

    He hides his love, exercising patience, but then reveals it

    As his pouring tears overcome him

  7. حاشاكَ تنقض عهد وَدّ بَينَنا

    وَاِلَيكَ تنسب حسنها الاخلاق

    Far be it from you to break a bond of affection between us

    And attribute its beauty to your manners

  8. احسن فان الحُسن ضَيف راحل

    وَالناس خَيل لِلذَّهاب تساق

    Do good, for good is a departing guest

    And people are steeds kept for riding

  9. وَلكلّ صبّ لا محالَة سلوة

    وَلكل بَدر قَد أَضاء مُحاق

    And for every youth there is, inevitably, an infatuation

    And for every full moon there is an unveiled face

  10. هَل في فُؤادي غَير حُبِّكَ ساكِن

    أَو غَير طَيفِكَ في الكَرى طَرّاق

    Is there in my heart other than your love dwelling

    Or other than your image in the meadows capering?

  11. أَنا وَالَّذي أَولاكَ قَلبي مُغرَم

    صَبّ لِقُربِك دائِما اِشتاق

    I who have surrendered my heart to you, am enamored

    A youth longing always for your nearness

  12. طورا أَرى متجلدا متصبرا

    فَتَضيق بي الاِقطار وَالآفاق

    At times I see myself exercising patience and endurance

    So that the horizons narrow around me

  13. وَأَدير أَقداح التفكر تارَة

    فَيَصير لِلاهوالِ بي اِحداق

    And I turn about the cups of contemplation

    And dread of rejection presents itself

  14. وَأَذوبُ خَوف الصَدّ لَولا اِنَّهُ

    بَيني وَبَينِكَ في الهَوى ميثاق

    Were it not for the pact of love between us

    I would preserve such modesty as would bow necks

  15. عِندي كَما شاءَ الغَرامُ صِيانَة

    في الحُبّ تَقصر دونَها الاِعناق

    Chastity is my nature and ethos

    And with its like lovers compete

  16. وَلي العفاف سجية وَطَبيعَة

    وَبِمِثل ذا يَتَنافَس العُشّاق

    And my share of your love is the bliss of beholding you

    But I say “Blessed is the Creator”

  17. وَنَصيب حُبّي مِنكَ لذة ناظِري

    لكن أَقول تَبارَكَ الخَلّاق

    If my fortunes turn against me

    And the dwellings again are sweet to me

  18. ان جادَلي دَهري الخؤن وَعاد لي

    قُرب الدِيار وَطاب مِنهُ مَذاق

    I will forgive the days for disagreeing with me

    And precede them in forgiveness

  19. لأسامِحَنّ الدَهر في اِخلافِه

    فَيَكون مني في السَماحِ سباق

    And I will pardon all the sins of my fortunes

    And say, between me and time there is no contention

  20. وَلأغفرنّ ذُنوبَ دَهري كلها

    وَأَقول لَيسَ من الزَمانِ شقاق

    And in either case I have no refuge

    Other than the one I embrace in intimacy

  21. وَعلى كِلا الحالَين ما لي مَلجَأ

    اِلّا الَّذي قَد خاطَبتَهُ عناق

    Taha the Pure, the Most Pure, the Purifier

    Who is the healing for hearts and their sickness

  22. طه البَشير الطاهِر الطهر الَّذي

    هو لِلقُلوبِ وَسَقمِها تِرياق

    The secret of existence and pole of its sphere

    His glorious domain is sublime

  23. سرّ الوُجودِ وَقطب دائِرَة الشَهو

    دِ وَمن له المَجد الرَفيع نطاق

    The most pious of creation and most majestic of those who tread earth

    And ascended with it to glorious heights

  24. أَزكى الوَرى وَأَجل من وطىء الثَرى

    وَسَرى بِه لِلمُكرَمات بَراق

    My shelter at distress, your palm rains heavily

    If anxiety befalls me and the throat constricts

  25. يا مَلجئي أَضام وَغيث كفك هاطِل

    ان حَلّ بي كرب وَضاق خناق

    Far be it forever, your existence is always pouring

    If you are pleased with me then there is no harm

  26. حاشى أَضام وَغيث كفك هاطِل

    أَبدا وُجودِكَ دائِماً دَفّاق

    And if companions and wealth of friends retreat

    May God send blessings upon you whenever dawn shone

  27. ان كانَ مِنكَ رِضا عليّ فَلا اَذى

    وَان انثَنى صحب وَمال رِفاق

    And the brilliant lightening flashed from Najd

  28. صَلى عَلَيكَ اللَهُ ما هبت صِبا

    نجد وَأومض لمعَها البَرّاق
