God has made a full moon rise from your face,

above the bough of your swaying form.

You appeared arrayed in mantles of beauty,

and the eyes of those assembled stared in wonder.

So charming indeed was your beautiful face

that it intoxicated all who gazed, without a cup.

You banished sleep from the lid of my eye

and left my heart in whispering unrest.

O full moon, if you endured my ardor

and my passion, you would have mercy on me for what I suffer.

What graying you have brought upon me—and what sleeplessness!

I received them in my eye and upon my head.

So fear God, and conceal yourself behind a veil:

the sight of you is a temptation to all people.
