1. Indeed, my sin, by God, is a great sin.

    Yet I seek refuge in your forbearance.

  2. My breast grew tight, and sin shamed my face,

    And shame wrought a change in me.

  3. And I felt remorse when what was done was done;

    Yet what was decreed came to pass.

  4. And I delayed meeting you out of shame;

    Then the delay exhausted me.

  5. And I ceased to come before you,

    Out of shame, when my failings overwhelmed me.

  6. And I concealed myself [uncertain reading] through heedlessness and ignorance;

    Yet not every sinner is concealed.

  7. And how often I longed to come to you,

    Then I say: how can I come?

  8. And I pondered deliverance from sin;

    So reflection exhausted my heart.

  9. And evil thoughts came upon me one after another;

    They troubled me, and my conscience was bewildered by them.

  10. But forgiveness is not far from you,

    So may a broken heart be made whole.

  11. Indeed, my opinion of you, by God, is good,

    And my tongue falls short in offering my apology.

  12. Your breadth of heart led me to what

    I did; and your forbearance is renowned.

  13. Pardon and forgiveness are the way of the noblest;

    With you, every sin is forgiven.
