وَلِلحَقِّ مِن مالي إِذا هُوَ ضافَني

نَصيبٌ وَلِلنَّفسِ الشُعاعِ نَصيبُ

Truth deserves my wealth when it afflicts me

And the soul deserves some joy now and then

وَلا خَيرَ فيمَن لا يُوَطِّنُ نَفسَهُ

عَلى نائِباتِ الدَهرِ حينَ تَنوبُ

No good in one who doesn’t steel his soul

Against the blows of fate when fortunes change
