1. By your life, Rayyā is no woman to be trusted,

    nor, with Rayyā, is there any requital for a lover.

  2. Nor has Ṭayyā’s bond, since the day she broke with my kin,

    endured; nor is Ṭayyā a woman of fidelity.

  3. My two friends, I grow only in affection

    for Ṭayyā, though hostility has tormented me.

  4. And among her sayings is: “Aversion has come to an end.”

    Then why does aversion not cut life short?
