1. أيا راكباً إما عرضت فبلغن

    مغلغلة عنى لؤى بن غالب

    O rider, if you pass by, convey

    My affections to Lua'y bin Ghalib

  2. رسول امرئ قد راعه ذات بينكم

    على النأي محزونٍ بذلك ناصب

    A messenger of a man distressed by estrangement

    Grieving your remoteness, erecting barriers

  3. وقد كان عندي للهموم معرس

    فلم أقض منها حاجتي ومآربي

    I had gathered worries that besieged me

    Before fulfilling my needs and desires

  4. ونبئتكم شرجين كل قبيلة

    لها أزمل من بين مُدكٍ وحاطب

    And I inform you of people of Shurayn and every tribe

    Each has a chief of repute, honorable and esteemed

  5. أعيذكم بالله من شر صنعكم

    وشر تباغيكم ودس العقارب

    I seek refuge in God from the evil of your deeds

    And the evil of your discord and venomous scorpions

  6. وإظهارِ أخلاقٍ ونجوى سقيمةٍ

    كوخز الأشافي وقعها حق صائبر

    And the emergence of wicked morals and vile whispers

    Like the stings of serpents, truly hitting their mark

  7. فذكرهم باللَه أولَ وهلة

    وإحلال أحرام الظباء الشوازب

    So remind them of God first and foremost

    And the sanctity of the untouchable gazelles

  8. وقل لهم واللَه يحكم حكمه

    ذروا الحرب تذهب عنكم في المراحب

    And tell them by God who judges justly

    Desist from war which will diminish your dignity

  9. متى تبعثوها تبعثوها ذميمةً

    هي الغُول للأقصين أو للأقارب

    Whenever you ignite it, you ignite it disgracefully

    It is a monster for the distant and the near

  10. تقطع أرحاماً وتهلك أمةً

    وتبرى السديف من سنام وغارب

    It severs kinship and destroys a nation

    And absolves the devil of saddle and stirrup

  11. وتستبدلوا بالأتحمية

    شليلاً وأصداء ثياب المحارب

    And you replace the garments of glory

    With ragged clothes and echoes of warriors' armor

  12. وبالمسك والكافور غُبراً سوابغاً

    كأن قتيريها عيون الجنادب

    And musk and camphor with abundant dust

    As if the motes are the eyes of locusts

  13. فإياكم والحرب لا تعلقنكم

    وحوضاً وخيم الماء مرَّ المشارب

    So beware of war, let it not seduce you

    Like a cesspool whose water has turned brackish

  14. تزين للأقوام ثم يرونها

    بعاقبة إذ بينت أم صاحب

    It adorns itself for the people then they see it

    In its consequences, has it made its companion prosper?

  15. تحرق لا تشوى ضعيفاً وتنتحي

    ذوي العز منكم بالحتوف الصوائب

    It burns without roasting the weak and sidesteps

    The honored among you with unerring calamities

  16. ألم تعلموا ما كان في حرب داحس

    فتعتبروا أو كان في حرب حاطب

    Do you not know what transpired in the war of Dahis

    And draw lessons, or what occurred in the war of Hatib

  17. وكم قد أصابت من شريف مسودٍ

    طويل العماد ضيفه غير خائب

    And how much it has struck an honorable man of esteem

    Tall in stature, his hospitality never failing

  18. عظيم رماد النار يُحمد أمرُه

    وذي شيمة محضٍ كريم المضارب

    The great ashes of fire, his affair is praised

    While one of pure morals, generous in battle

  19. وماءٍ هريق في الضلال كأنما

    أذاعت به ريح الصبا والجنائب

    And spilled water misguidedly as if

    The wind disseminated it East and West

  20. يخبركم عنها امرؤٌ حقُّ عالم

    بأيامها واللم علمُ التجارب

    A truthful man well informed of its days

    And agony, agony is the knowledge of experiences

  21. فبيعوا الحراب ملمحارب واذكروا

    حسابكم واللَه خير محاسب

    So sell warfare and remember

    Your reckoning, and God is the best of reckoners

  22. ولى مرئ افاختار ديناً فلا يكن

    عليكم رقيباً غيرَ رب الثواقب

    And if a man chooses a religion, then do not

    Be for him a watcher other than the Lord of sieves

  23. أقيموا لنا ديناً حنيفاً فانتم

    لنا غاية قد يُهتدى بالذوائب

    Establish for us an upright religion, for you

    Are for us the goal to which the lost may be guided

  24. وأنتم لهذا الناس نور وعصمة

    تؤمون والأحلام غير عوازب

    And you are for these people a light and protection

    Leading while dreams do not mislead

  25. وأنتم إذا ما حصل الناس جوهر

    لكم سُرة البطحاء شُمَّ الأرانب

    And you, if people attain essence

    Yours are the meadows of Buthan, chief of burrows

  26. تصونون أجساداً كراماً عتيقة

    مهذبة الأنساب غير أشائب

    You protect revered bodies of ancient nobility

    Refined lineage, flawless and pure

  27. ترى طالب الحاجات نحو بيوتكم

    عصائب هلكى تهتدى بعصائب

    You see seekers of needs heading to your homes

    Destitute pilgrims guided by pilgrims

  28. لقد علم الأقوام أن سراتك

    على كل حالٍ خيرُ أهل الجباجب

    The people have known that your leadership

    Is in every state the best of those who don turbans

  29. وأفضله رأياً وأعلاه سنة

    وأقوله للحق وسط المواكب

    And the finest in opinion and highest in way

    And most honest in speech amid processions

  30. فقوموا فصلوا لربكم وتمسحوا

    بأركان هذا البيت بين الأخاشب

    So stand and pray to your Lord and touch

    The pillars of this house among the planks

  31. فعندكم منه بلاء مصدق

    غداة أبي يكسوم هادي الكتائب

    For in it you have an affliction verily proven

    The morning my father guided regiments

  32. كتيبته بالسهل تمسى ورحله

    على القاذفات في رؤوس المناقب

    His battalion spent the night in the valley

    While his belongings were upon the supply camels

  33. فلما أتاكم نصر ذي العرش ردهم

    جنود المليك بين ساف وحاصب

    When the victory of the Lord of the Throne aided you

    The King's soldiers returned them between saff and hasib

  34. فولوا سراعاً هاربين ولم يؤب

    إلى أهله ملحبش غيرُ عصائب

    They fled in haste escaping, and none returned

    To his family except tattered robes

  35. فإن تهلكوا نهلك وتهلك مواسم

    يعاش بها قول امرئٍ غير كاذب

    If you perish we perish, and you destroy seasons

    Lived by the words of a man who is no liar
