1. جَلَوتَ لنا قشرا من الصبح مترعاً

    من الشمس يَعشَى دونها المتوسّمُ

    You revealed to us a shell of the dawn drinking

    From the sun which sets behind it the expectant one

  2. فأعُينُنا سكرى لفرط شعاعه

    وشارِبُها من شدة السُّكر مُفحَمُ

    So our eyes were drunk from the excess of its rays

    And its drinker from the intensity of drunkenness is darkened
