أبا حسنٍ ربيعةُ من سُلَيمٍ

سنانٌ زانَ عاليةَ الرماح

Abu Hasan from the tribe of Rabi'ah,

A spear whose thrust is lofty.

وإني عائذٌ بك من هَنَاتٍ

نحتن دعائمي نحتَ القداحِ

And I seek refuge in you from weakness

That undermines my pillars like woodworm.

فكِرَّ على ابن عمك وانتشلهُ

فليس حِمَى ابن عمك بالمُباح

So think of your cousin and rescue him,

For betraying your cousin is not sanctioned.

فإنَّ الجارَ عندك بين جنبي

عُقابِ الدُّجنِ كاسرةِ الجَناح

For your neighbor who resides beside you

Is like a bird with broken wings in a cage.
