1. وَمُهَدَّلِ الشَطَّينِ تَحسَبُ أَنَّهُ

    مُتَسَيِّلٌ مِن دُرَّةٍ لِصَفائِهِ

    The slacker of the two banks you'd think it is

    Flowing from a pearl such is its clarity

  2. فاءَت عَلَيهِ مَعَ الهَجيرَةِ سَرحَةٌ

    صَدِئَت لِفَيئَتِها صَفيحَةُ مائِهِ

    Then a herd descended drinking from it

    Tarnishing the sheen of its water's purity

  3. فَتَراهُ أَزرَقَ في غُلالَةِ سُمرَةٍ

    كَالدارِعِ اِستَلقى بِظِلِّ لِوائِهِ

    So it became bluish in the shade's darkness

    Like a knight reclined beneath his banner's shadow
