أيا خليليّ دعَا

ذِكْرَ السِّوَى واستمعا

O my friend, forget about the past

And listen to the prideful tale that rose

حديثَ فخرٍ طلعا

في مصر أبهى مطلعٍ

In Egypt, a most splendid rising

Pride answered the call

فخرٌ أجاب من دعا

لكسبه ومن دعى

Of those seeking glory and whoever called

In a homeland some laid claim to

في وطنٍ من ادّعى

له لحاقاً فدعِى

As if catching up so it was called

The full moon rose high

بدرٌ عُلاه سطعا

وفي سما المجد سعى

And sought glory in the sky

Donning the finest attire in existence

على البهاء خلعا

في الكون أبهى الخِلع

Pride answered the call

Of those seeking glory and whoever called

فخر أجاب من دعا

لكسبه ومن دعى

In a homeland some laid claim to

As if catching up so it was called

في وطنٍ من ادَّعى

له لحاقاً فدعى

Joy returned

With our pride since it returned

حادى السرور رجّعَا

بعزّنا مذ رجعا

And it shone brightly

What a fine shine that was

وقد أبان لُمعا

يا حسنها من لمع

Our homeland grew strong

And our mind grew biased

وطننا تعزّزا

وبالهنا تحيّزا

Did another distinguish itself

With its easy yet impossible?

هل غَيْرُه تميّزا

بسهله الممتنع

A true pride preceded

Remaining through time

أصيلُ فخرٍ أسبقِ

على مدى الدهر بقى

With a sweet fragrance

That fills the listener

بطيب ذكرٍ عبقِ

يُضوع للمستمع

Its lineage is high

Raised through honor

حديثُه عالي النسبْ

بالعزِّ مرفوعُ النسب

And it's enough that it be taken into account

For it is in the highest position

وحسبه إنْ يُحتسب

ففي المحلّ الأرفع

A market high in morality

Unlike the immoral

سوقٌ عُلاه نافقُ

بغيضُه منافق

Its friend is the one in agreement

Taking it to what is most beneficial

صديقه الموافق

يسوقه للأنفع

No wise person with insight

Except one who loves the homeland

ليس اللبيبُ ذو الفطن

إلا المحب للوطن

And has settled in it

It is for them the highest position

وموضعٌ به قَطنْ

لديه أسمى موضعِ

So the homeland is most beloved

Over wealth that can be earned

فمسقط الرأس أحّبْ

من رأس مال يُكتسب

And whoever professed their love for it

Is the brightest intellect

ومن لحبه انتسبْ

فهو الذكيُّ الألمعي

One who is ungrateful is awakened

And advised through rights

وذو العقوق يوقظُ

وبالحقوق يُوعظ

Hopefully they understand and remember

A covenant they observed

عسى يَعي ويَحفظ

عهْدا رعاه من يعي

Honor Egypt, protector

Its heights have reached the sky

أكرمْ بمصر من حِمَى

عُلاه قد سامى السما

Its foundations have surely risen

What elevated foundations indeed!

مربعه لقد سما

فيا له من مربع

Eras have passed over it

Glory does not wane for it

مضتْ عليه أعصرُ

والمجد لا يُقصَر

Praise falls short for it

My brother, be concise and gather

فيه المديحُ يَقصُر

أقصرْ أُخيّ واجمع

Composing poetry and amorous verse

Is avoided outside Egypt

نظمُ النسيب والغزلْ

في غير مصر يُعتزل

Only in it did it rise and never descend

Except upon a doe leaping

فيها علا وما نزل

إلا على غزال لعلع

With love for it ambitions rise

With love for it virtues rise

في حبها تسموا الهممْ

في حبها تعلو الشيم

With love for it values rise

To its elevated extent

في حيا تعلو القيم

بقدرها المرتفع

Its blessed Nile

Has no match in flooding

ونيلها المبارك

في الفيض لا يشاركُ

Its banks are courses

Hoped for at every dam

أرجاؤه مسالك

تُرْجَى بكل مَشْرع

Watering with sweet water

News of continued favor

يَروي بعذبٍ سلسل

أخبار فضل مرسلِ

With purity measured

By loyalty and forearms

بالصفا مُسلسل

عن الوفا بالأذرع

Egypt, how glorious it is

All passionately adore it

فمصرُ ما أجلَّها

الكل يهوى وصلَها

And if an eye sheds tears for it

I wipe it with a finger

فإنْ رنتْ عينٌ لها

نفقأها بالأصبع

Lofty are its affairs

Impenetrable are its fortresses

رفيعةٌ شئونُها

منيعةٌ حصونُها

Wondrous are its arts

How many citadels it erected

بديعة فنونها

كم شيّدتْ منْ بلقع

Its dear one brings concord

And is gentle with souls

عزيزُها موفَّقُ

وبالنفوسِ يرفق

And spends on the precious

From a sea of boundless generosity

وللنفيس ينَفقُ

من بحرِ جودٍ أوسع

Its ruler settled in it

When it chose it as a homeland

مليكها توطَّنا

حيث اصطفاها وطنا

And was insightful of glories

And did not rush to immorality

وللمعالي فطنا

وللسوى لم يهرع

Since he became its patron

He granted it honor

ومذْ غَدا مولاها

للعزِّ قد أولاها

Supporting and endowing it

With the might of a stronger lion

مُؤَيَداً وَلاها

بباسِ ليثٍ أروع
