الحمدُ لله وصل ربِّ

على النبي وآلهِ والصَّحبِ

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds

And peace upon the Prophet, his family, and companions

وبعدُ فالتأديبُ للأبناءِ

آكدُ واجبٍ على الآباءِ

Now, disciplining children

Is an utmost duty upon parents

من أجل ذا نظنتُ للتنبيهِ

خمساً وأربعين بيتاً فيه

For this purpose, I composed

Forty five verses herein

في نحو ساعتيْن والمولى عَلى

قصدي أعان جلَّ ربي وعلا

In about two hours, and my Master

Helped me accomplish my aim

في برِّ والديك بالغْ تغنمْ

لا سيما في العيدِ أو في الموسمْ

Excel in dutifulness to your parents

Especially on Eid or festive seasons

وإن ترْم سرور أمٍ أو أبِ

يوما فكسْبُ العلم خيرُ مكسبِ

And if you bring joy to a mother or father

One day, seeking knowledge is the best gain

من رام عند الناس طُرّاً أن يُحب

فليلتزم حُسنَ السلوك والأدب

Whoever desires high status among people

Let him adhere to good conduct and etiquette

وأن يكون طيبَ السريره

مهذبَّ الأخلاق زاكي السيره

And have a pure heart

With refined morals and pious ways

من رامَ بين العالم ارتفاعه

فلْيلزم العفةَ والقناعه

Whoever seeks elevation in this world

Let him adhere to chastity and contentment

هل ذَلَّ الناس عبدٌ يقنعُ

أو عزَّ سيدٌ لديهم يَطمعُ

Do people stoop to a content servant

Or covet a master who is never satisfied?

إن رمت أن تشرِّقَ الأولادا

وأن ترى من نَجلك اجتهاداً

If you wish your children to shine

And see diligence from your son

فعدْهُ بالإتحافِ يومَ العيدِ

وقدمْ الوعدَ على الوعيدِ

Reward him with gifts on Eid

And promise before you threaten

يعاقبُ الجاني بما جناه

وذاك في دنياه أو عقباه

Punish the wrongdoer for his wrong

In this world or the hereafter

والظلم لا يتركه المولى سُدَى

مآلُ كل ظالمٍ إلى الردى

Injustice is not left unrequited by the Lord

Every oppressor's fate leads to ruin

من رام أن يكتسبَ اللطافه

عليه طولَ الدهر بالنظافه

Whoever desires to gain grace

Let him be clean and neat forever

فإنها من شُعب الإيمانِ

تُطلب في الثياب والأبدان

For it is a trait of faith

To seek it in clothes and body

وشرٌّ أوصافِ الفتى هو الغضبْ

يُفضى إلى ارتكاب ما لا يُرتكبْ

The worst trait of a youth is anger

Which leads him to the unthinkable

فياله من خَصلةٍ ذميمه

في تركها مصلحةٌ جَسيمه

What a despicable quality it is

To abandon it is immense benefit

وقوةُ الرأس مع العنادِ

من أقبح الخِصال في الأولاد

Wilfullness along with stubbornness

Are the ugliest traits in children

والامتثالُ صفةٌ جليله

للودِّ ليس مثلها وسيله

While obedience is a noble quality

Nothing endears like it

مما يُعدُّ من صفات الذم

كتمُ الصغير عن أبٍ وأم

Among condemnable traits

Is a child hiding a secret from mother or father

سراً حقيراً أو جليلاً بل يجبْ

إبداؤه وعنهما لا يُحتجبْ

Be it trivial or grave, it must be disclosed

And not concealed from the parents

يَطلعُ المولى على ما تعمله

بعلمه لكنه قد يمهله

God knows all that you do

But He may delay the reckoning

ففُزْ بفعل صالح الأعمالِ

تحز صلاح الحال والمآل

So perform righteous deeds

To gain rectitude in state and end

من يعصِ والديه ضلَّ وندمْ

وساءَ حاله وللرشد عَدمْ

Whoever disobeys his parents goes astray and regrets

His state worsens and guidance evades him

وضاعَ سعيُه وخاب أمله

ما لم يَتُب فلا يضيح عمله

Until he repents, his deeds will not avail

And his efforts will be wasted and hopes ruined

وعفةُ الشريف عندض الفقرِ

وصبرُه لعسره مع شكر

A noble one's chastity despite poverty

And patience with hardship and gratitude

خيرُ فضيلة عليها يُحمد

يعقبها اليسْرُ ويبقى السؤُدد

Are the best virtues for which he is praised

Ease follows and prosperity remains

والولد الصالحُ عند الأهل

يُحبّ بل يُكرم عند الكل

A righteous child is loved by family

And respected by all

يمتاز عن أقرانه في المكتبِ

تشمله بركةُ المؤدب

He excels his peers in school

Blessed by his teacher's care

فضلُ البنات الشغلُ والتطريزُ

من حوتْ علماً به تفورُ

A girl's merits lie in sewing and embroidery

One learned in it will excel

في سائر الأحوال والاحتشامْ

من جنسهن والحيا يُرام

In all conditions and modesty

Which their gender must uphold

الرفقُ بالفقير والضعيف

من حُسن أخلاق الفتى الشريف

Being kind to the poor and weak

Shows the noble youth's refined ways

وخرفُ ربِّ العرشِ والمراقبه

أمنٌ من الشر وسُوءٍ العاقبه

And fearing the Lord of the Throne, the Watcher

Protects from evil and wretched ends

من رام نظمه بسلك السُّعَدا

فلْيُسِعدْ الناسَ ليبقى مُسعدا

Whoever desires his composition to prosper

Let him make people happy to remain felicitous

يُحبُّ مثلَ ما له لغيره

يُعطى أخاه جانباً من خيره

Loving for others what he loves for himself

Let him give his brother a share of his good

يَحسُنُ حفظُ اللوح الصغير

على مرار بل وللكبير

Memorizing short texts is commendable

Repeatedly, even when older

يرسخُ في الذهن وليس يُمحا

جرِّبه بالتقسيم واقبل نصحا

It settles in the mind and is not erased

Test it by dividing it, and accept advice

الكبرُ ناشيءٌ عن الحماقه

وما لعاقلٍ عليه طاقه

Arrogance stems from ignorance

No sensible person can bear it

يبغضُ كلُّ الناس ربَّ الكبرِ

وبالرفيع والوضيع يُزرى

All people despise the arrogant

He is scorned by high and low

تَستحسنُ الطباعُ وَصفَ الأدبِ

وأحسنُ الآداب آدابُ النبي

Good manners and cultured ways are appreciated

The best manners are the manners of the Prophet

وما سِوى أخلاقه فباطلُ

ومن تحلّى بسواها عاطلُ

Anything besides his morals is false

Whoever adopts other ways is misguided

ولا يليقُ من غلامٍ الطاعه

خروجُ رأيه عن الجماعه

It does not befit a boy to disobey

And differ from the community

ففي اجتماع الكلمةِ السلامه

بها يُتَممُ الفتى مَرامه

For in unity there is safety

Through it the youth fulfills his purpose

والحمدُ لله وصلى اللهُ

على النبي وكلِّ مَنْ والاه

And praise be to Allah, and may Allah
