1. If a man does not seek a livelihood for himself,

    he complains of poverty or blames his friend at length.

  2. And he becomes a burden to his nearest kin, and soon

    the cords of kinship will be severed.

  3. So travel through God's lands and seek wealth;

    you will live in affluence, or die and so be excused.

  4. And none pursues what he needs in every direction,

    among people, save one who strives and girds himself for toil.

  5. And do not settle for a lowly life, nor sleep;

    and how can one in poverty sleep at night?
