1. حلَّت رُمَيلَةُ بالمتبع حَلَّةً

    إيان أذ هيَ ناشيءٌ أملودُ

    The maiden walked with a swaying gait,

    Whether she was coming or going I could not guess.

  2. تهتلُّ عَن شَنَبِ اللِّثاتِ كأنَّها

    عَسَلٌ بماءِ سَحابةٍ مَبرُودُ

    She reveals teeth like hailstones

    When her mouth smiled below her shapely nose.

  3. وَلَقَد حَسَدتُّ إزارَها وقِنَاعَها

    إنَّ الفَقِيرَ لذِي الغِنى لَحَسُودُ

    And truly I envied her veil and her robes -

    The poor man is always envious of the rich.
