1. أنا تِربُ الوفا وربُّ المعالي

    وغمامُ الندى وليثُ النَزِالِِ

    I am the nurturer of loyalty and the lord of virtues,

    The raincloud of dew and the lion of battle.

  2. أنا صقرُ الملوكِ إنْ فَدَحَ الخطبُ

    وهابَ الكميُّ طعنَ العَوالي

    I am the falcon of kings - when disaster rages

    And the fates cast their spears, piercing misfortune.

  3. أنا تاجُ الملوكِ قد علم النا

    سُ بهذا وسيدُ الأبدالِ

    I am the crown of kings, the people know this,

    I am the master of time and chief of nobles.

  4. أنا أزكى الأنامِ إلا أُولي العز

    مِ نجاراً وذا العُلى والجلالِ

    I am the most generous of men except those

    Of valor, sublimity, and majesty.

  5. أنا ذو السؤْدَد السَّنني سُليمانُ

    سليلِ المتوَّجِ المفضال

    I am he of the flowing locks, Solomon,

    Scion of the crowned, the meritorious,

  6. ابن نبهان إبنِ عمروٍ وابن كهلا

    نَ سليلِ النبيَّ ذي الأفضالِ

    Son of Nabhan, son of Amr, and son of Kilab,

    Scion of the Prophet, the most virtuous.

  7. والمليكُ المتوَّجُ الأروعُ الضّرْ

    بُ جزيل العَطا جزيلُ النّوالِِ

    I am the accomplished, crowned king, magnificent in valor,

    Bountiful in gift-giving, bountiful in feasts.

  8. كل يومٍ أعطي الفقير وألقي

    هامةَ المعتدي مكان النَّعالِ

    Each day I give to the poor and cast down

    The insolent's turban in place of sandals.

  9. وإذا الجودُ جاءَ بعد سؤالٍ

    جاءَ جودي الأنامَ قبل السؤالِ

    My generosity comes after request,

    Yet my munificence precedes all asking.

  10. وإذا قلتُ سُقتُ قولي بفعلٍ

    ولكم قائلٍ بغيْر فعِالِ

    When I speak, my words are borne out by deeds,

    Not like some speaker with no deeds to show.

  11. أعطي الخيل في الأجلةَّ

    والعَسجَد والإبلَ والأماءَ الغوالي

    I give horses caparisoned,

    Camels, cattle, and lovely slave girls.

  12. وأرَوّى السّنان بل أغمدُ القر

    نَ بهامِ القرونِ والأبطالِ

    I water the peak but also sheathe the point

    Of the spear amidst the valiant warriors' skulls.

  13. وإذا عَقّب الشجاعُ عن الفيْلقِ

    أو رَاعه بريقُ النضالِ

    When the brave turns from the mêlée

    Or is stunned by the flash of blades,

  14. خُضتُ آذيّه بمنصلت الحدَّ

    ينِ خوضَ الغَضنفر الرئبالِ

    I plunge into the foe with my Indian sword -

    A plunge like al-Ghadanfar's midst the lions.

  15. وبَلدْنٍ أصمَّ مطّردِ الأكْ

    عُب صدقٍ مثقفٍ عسَّالِ

    On a steed swifter than lightning, easier to turn

    Than a thoughts in an enlightened, keen mind,

  16. فوقَ ذي مَيْعةٍ أقَبَّ قصير

    الظهر نهدٍ مجنَّبٍ صهَّالِ

    Above it sways a firm breast, evading

    Spear-tips, like a bending branch on a sand-dune.

  17. أطفيء الحربَ فوقه بحسامٍ

    مَشرفيّ يطفي لظى الأهوالِ

    With my noble, glittering sword I quench war,

    Vanquishing the heat of terrors.

  18. وإذا المحلُ جارَ وانخضعَ النا

    سُ لفقد المجلجلِ الهطاَّلِ

    When the kingdom was in strife and people bowed

    To the loss of the great, exalted king,

  19. سفحتْ راحتي على الخلقِ وَبْلا

    ردِّ رُوحا في ميّت الآمالِ

    My contentment flowed unto the people, restoring

    Life to the dead of hope without match.

  20. هذه عادتي وهذى فعالي

    وكذا لم أزلْ وتِلكمْ خصالي

    Such is my way and such are my deeds,

    Ever was I thus, these are my attributes.
